Please ignore me I know that I look like a total pilchard but its how I have been teaching him to do it :o

Started by teaching him to copy me then added a tap to the shoulder and a voice command. Now I'm just starting to take away copying and tapping on the shoulder and im just using a voice command. Its not brilliant (only started doing this 4 days ago) so he keeps loosing it and leaving his back legs behind but hes getting there :)

This is what happens when you have no saddle and a horse who gets bored easily. We have been schooling but im just trying to shake things up a bit :)

Before anyone says anything - he is not a foot scraper or a door kicker nor has he started since being taught it he only does it when copying me, being tapped on the shoulder or is asked to count!

I would post it as the video not the link but I have forgotten how :o so please feel free to tell me how to!

Most Spanish horses are taught Spanish walk as part of the breaking process; it comes quite naturally to them. He's not bad, but I would advise you to make it much slower as it is supposed to be used as a proccessional gait and should be higher too, ideally with the forearm horizontal. Very good excercise for opening the shoulders, and as a prep for passage (and levade, if you want to take it that far). Horse looks very happy, well done.

thank you :) hes can still be a little funny long reining so im trying not to push it at the moment as if you push it too far he panics and then you are back to square one :( im trying to think of different things he can be taught at the moment as once he knows this I will need something else :o one thing he can not get the hang of is bowing. he really just does not get it :o silly beast

Love it! He's like mine in that its a little less extravagent and more hurried than it should be, but if you are like me and have never taught it before I'd be thrilled. My only problem is my pony loves doing it so much he tends to pop it in occasionally at random times, like out on the field or if I ride one handed!
