This makes me sad.....

She is close to me to, few miles, im going to call tomorrow and ask if they'd accept £100 without tack / rugs, then she can go keep order in my youngsters field, as my mare is currently only out with another 4 year old.

You are such a nice person to offer, personally i hate seeing adds like this, and if I were in a position to offer a home I'd be saying to the owners 'you seem to love this horse, I can offer a lovley retirement home till the rest of her days, keep the tack and sell it privately and I'll give you £20 for her.......'

I wouldn't be offering more I'm afraid, there are companions available and dieing for lovely homes in rescues up and down the country, where the money in adopting would go towards helping more horses.

I think we need an oldy in the field, the two youngsters run around like loons, and call to one n other when taken out to do some work.

I feel for sorry for her, i think i'd be far to attached to let her go.....especially when she could end up with some teenager thinking ooh a cheap horse with all its tack, ragging it round the woods.

Hold on, is everyone assuming she's only good as a companion? If she's sound and in good health she could be a great happy hacker. I got my old boy (admittedly on loan) at the age of 25 and he was still active under saddle at 33 (he's still active, by the way, just retired!). In between he showed me how to enjoy cross country and dressage. He has a home for life - well, 2 homes actually, but I've persuaded his owner that she doesn't need him back...

I think that's the difference, if someone loans the horse out at that age, they are accepting that they are retaining some responsibility on the horse and what happens to it etc. But selling at that age I think isn't right. (personal opinion). The horse could end up anywhere.....

The ad was placed on the 15th Nov last year, hope she is still there so that you can get her BB. I think if I was in this position I would sign her over to a horse rescue charity. Or make the decision to have her PTS so that she didn't end up somewhere undesirable. Please let us know how you get on.

It was still advertised today so hopefully my girl will have a nanny soon. Im not assuming she is only good as a companion i just think at her age its not fair to ask alot. She deserved a happy relaxed and dignified time regardless of it being three or eight years x

Makes me v sad and extremely mad.

I don't see why your mad? Its sad that an old horse is being sold but why on earth is it bad?! The advert seems fine, they say they only want a loving home for it so they clearly care. They also say they are selling due to finances, surely its better this horse goes to a home who can afford to keep it?!
