This makes me so angry!!!

Sadly don't think it is photoshopped. Is a stud called Hantam Saddle Horse Stud. Pictures are disgusting and I fail to understand how anyone can breed a horse with such a deformity - of which a sway back is.

The Big Lick TWH's go through hell - horrible, horrible stuff; as someone posted 'and we think rollkur's bad'.

I read a piece a while ago an it really brought home what they do - the article just stated, very simply, how silent a big lick soring barn is. The horses are in too much pain to stand so they stay down all day!

Give me a photo of your horse and I bet I can do something similar and make it look a lot more convincing then that.

:)

no it's okay I can do it myself thanks ;) Photo alteration is one of my specialities.

I have been on their facebook and the photo is REAL, you can see the horse in other photos and it looks just as bad.

I hope the flack they are getting on facebook makes them remove the images.

No I don't think removing the images is in any way a good thing it's stopping the practises allowing these horses to do a job that they can enjoy. It a bit like the bad end of dog showing where they have bred exaggerated characteristics into the dogs but here they add awful training practices as well.
Light is the best disinfectant the more people see these things the likely it is something is done to stop it.

So sad :(

But I think it's good that we make such a fuss about Rollkur and about Arabian shanking. We have drawn a line as a society that we would never tolerate treatment such as the Big Lick horses suffer without WW3 kicking off.

As a paid up member of the Barefoot Taliban - they tragedy of what is happening to them, just via their hooves, is bad enough to me.

When I got my ASB I knew nothing about them so looked up on the Internet I was amazed but concluded that everyone involved in these practices is in a sort of group denial about the morality of it it's a very strange world when you read up about it.

I wasn't sure, but thought the background in the photos looked very like South Africa - people look South African too. :( Gives us a bad name.

But, it's not like this is a standard South African thing to do, let's be honest.

(

This ^^.

From looking at the stud page it's not photoshopped.

I havnt read all the replies so if I repeat anything already said I'm sorry.
The horses look like they are on stacks which is a "preferred" look for showing tennessee walking horses.
They also "sore'' the horses to make them left their legs higher , very cruel practise :(

The set of the neck is natural. We are so used to seeing horses in the TB "outline" that anything with an upright neck and head is seen as "un-natural." It is because the horses that went to the Americas with the Spanish invaders were the old type European horses, the ancestors of the Spanish horses. This is where the gaited breeds came from too, because in those days a riding horse was preferred if it was an ambler. It was only later on in horse breeding terms that riding horses became trotters.

There is a very interesting book on this subject called The Conquerers by Dr. Deb Bennett.

However, that doesn't mean that I like the modern training methods used for the show ring.

Your hackney is descended from the old trotting ponies. People liked to see the upright head (read Black Beauty?) and the high knee action, as it looked smart.

watch the video below and wait until the end when he poses the stallion. Then imagine the stallion doing that pose with front feet on much higher ground and you can clearly see why the photos look like they do...

That really is quite sickening to watch :(

So your telling me the second picture, on the right trees just grow like that?

edit: not coming off in a cheeky way, lol just realised it might make me sound like I am looking for an arguement.

The horse on the pic looks deformed regardless of posing. The video looks like a normal horse.though I'm viewing on a phone!

I can't believe so many people are focusing on whether the pictures are amended or not.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER THE PICTURES ARE PHOTOSHOPPED OR NOT.

IT MATTERS THAT THEY THINK IT'S DESIRABLE FOR HORSES TO LOOK THAT WAY :(

Tennessee Walking Horse - this is sadly normal, although those may be photoshopped as they are probably the worst I have seen.

hideous.

no read my earlier post - i agreed the background is photoshopped (likely to remove objects that detract from the horse) but said that the horse itself hadnt been altered.

I understand why you thought i had gone mad now - i meant the horse isnt shopped but yes the background has deifnately been tampered with.

p.s. - dont worry we're not arguing, just having a discussion, it is hard to get tone of voice across in a text, but mine is friendly :D:D:D

I thought exactly this last night but couldn't be bothered to say it.

Agreed. I actually went away and read 141 pages on an American forum about TWH (which I believe this is not FWIW) which actually had a few show producers posting. Admittedly not big lick horse produces, people that rode lite shod classes. It was incredibly interesting. I will try and find a link to it.

ETS here we are

http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30599

It's very long, and in parts just silly (just like threads on here) but towards the end there are some really interesting arguments from both sides, as well as explanations about how the weird shoeing came to be, what the different classes actually are etc. You can probably skip the first 120 pages or so tbh!

I know that i am probably repeating what so many have said and thought but I can't sit here in silence having read and seen what they do to those poor horses, I can't believe how deformed they look and that this look is rewarded in the showring.

Really, how do these people live with themselves? :(
