My horse came in for winter two nights ago mainly due to the bad weather and severe flooding in my area she has not had turnout since sunday until today. both mornings all her legs have been puffy and warm from the hoof to around the knee/hock area. not excessivly swollen just puffy. she has been in the odd night over summer for a show and i havent noticed it before just seems odd. she isnt lame i have rode her tuesday and today with no lameness and by the time i get off she is back to norma with no heat or puffiness. any ideas ? Thanks

I am guessing it would be due to the fact that the circulation in her legs is sluggish due to her stopping in and not moving about. Even if she can't be turned out she should still be lunged/horse walked or ridden.

And any horses not turned out because the 'weather is too bad' I feel sorry for. Its only humans saying the weather is too bad, not them! Unless of course its very icy, so therefore extremeley dangerous, or water is up to their knees, so their field REALLY IS flooded, then yes I would agree!

Horses are horses and should be out as much as possible imho.

Our feilds were under a foot of water there have been flash floods across the region there was no possible way to turn her out hence her being in until today when the rain has stopped and the feilds have drained. I thought it would be because she hasnt been out which has caused the only day she wasnt ridden was monday. fingers crossed she will be back to normal in the morning having been ridden and turned out today
