This may sound really stupid

You should go shopping in your riding boots to ensure you get ones that fit. You should be able to get a finger in both sides of the stirrup, if the fit is too snug you may get your foot stuck in it if you fall off!
 
We had all our tack stolen a couple of years ago, and that was the hardest part of replacing things - I knew saddle and briddle sizes, but couldn't remember bit sizes, stirrup sizes, and stirrup leather lengths... I'd suggest keeping a record somewhere!
