Thinking of breeding my mare in a few years time..(She's a maiden) and would prefer a thoroughbred stallion so foaly isnt too big. Been suggested this boy:
http://www.groomsbridgestud.co.uk/i...oomsbridge-may-i&catid=40:stallions&Itemid=60 and I think hes quite nice however he's 15.2 and my mare is 13.3 and she'll be 14 year old at the time.
She's a m/w welsh D with lots of C's and D's in her pedigree with brenin and derwen lines going back to nebo black magic.
Do you think the foal would be too big for her, and if not what height could it be expected to make?
Some piccies of her:

My stallion goes to Groomsbridge for collections, so I have seen a fair bit of May I and some of his foals - Mac is a lovely horse, fabulous temperament, and throws lovely foals that are growing on to be fantastic competitors, doing really well in all spheres! You should phone and speak to Sally about any concerns you have for your mare - she is really knowledgeable and professional - I am fairly certain that if she doesnt think her boy would be a suitable cross for your mare she would tell you!

Hi ,
G May I is my stallion and he has successfully covered a number of smaller native type mares with great success so her size shouldnt be a problem.
All have turned out to be very useful sorts and as mentioned above his stock from all sorts of mares are now doing very well in all spheres.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like any more info.

Actually THM, you've a rather nice mare there, and a TB, which isn't enormous, would be exactly the way that I'd go too.

In your shoes, then I would look no further than the horse of your choice. MayI is a delight. Importantly, that would mean very little, had I not seen his youngsters. Every one of them has been of the kindest nature, and I've yet to see one which I wouldn't want!!

There's a bonus. You will be treated in a fair and unbiased manner.

Alec.

have a look at some of the anglo-arab stallions, i personally would prefer to put this mare to an anglo, some are half and half and others are 3 /4 tb, the arab component would dilute the two stronger bloodlines and add another dimension, arabs are noted for their soundness and very often give a very pretty head, and unexpectly can make a horse very agile.

its quite an old established idea to cross welsh, arab and tb and a very successful one,

aa stallions also come in around 14.2 HH upwards and would give you the choice to not go too big if you are concerned about the mare, and my experience is that often part arab foals are smaller at delivery
