""This serves as a wake up call for people who buy horses (cheaply) from this sort of dealer"" Ted Barnes ILPH Field Officer.....

LET'S HOPE IT DOES!!!!!!

Horses in the news.....

THE GREEN MONKEY

The most expensive horse ever sold..for $16m to Coolmore in 2006..has retired after 3 starts and no wins. The Green Monkey will now stand at stud and be a "tourist attraction."

A STUD AND A TOURIST ATTRACTION??? WTF????

any comments, Guys???

He will have to be a tourist attaction as no one is going to send a mare to him.

Laughable, don't you think??

Just goes to show, no matter how well they're bred and how much money you pay at the sales, doesn't guarantee a good horse.

As for the tourist attraction, why would anyone want to go see the "World's Most Expensive Failed Racehorse"? Cut his nuts of and retrain him if he's sound is what I say.

You may well be wrong there! He is a stunning horse, with excellent vetting (at time of sale - had to have to make that price) and is beautifully bred. If he was a mare he'd be given a chance..... There have been several top class stallions that showed only a little talent racing, but through injury were never exceptional - Danzig springs imediately to mind!

Ah, so he's not sound then.

You're right, he probably will get plenty of mares, but you have to wonder if he should.

I suppose it depends if his injuries were just unlucky, or if he has some inherent weaknesses that he might pass on, like so many modern thoroughbreds.

Sadly most breeders don't seem to take that into consideration though, seeing as they usually sell most of the youngstock as yearlings, before they're start work, so they get their money anyway, even if the horse is crippled by the age of 3.

What a stunning horses,it does say that it was planned that would be at stud 2009 anyway and that he was injured but it does not say what he has done to himself

No idea if there is any inherant weakness, I'm not that familiar with his family, but I knew his sire and his family VERY well - nails and tough spring to mind...... You're right with regards to your other comments though - been some very interesting comments/articles in the TDN on just that this week!

It's been well publicized that he injured his gluteal muscles as a 2yo ......
