This white van of the suspicious vehicles...

does anyone know what make it is?

I have just passed one in south wales (pencoed) parked in a gateway with the guy (who looked eastern European) taking pics of the thorses in a field...although the number plate was different from the one being mentioned... They were seen here a few days ago but nothing stolen so worried they've come back to steal..

Just worried that it is them, have told the owner of yard what i saw, and it wouldn't be past them to change number plate? So can someone just tell me hwat make the white van is to put my mind at rest (I did see it, just don't want to say until I've had a response!)

God this is a horrid time!

My friend from RC said that she saw them acting suspicious yesterday as well in Pencoed. She didnt tell me the make of the van but she gave me the reg number if you want me to PM it to you. She did report to the police and they asked her to inform them again if she saw them again. Awful isnt it

Plates don't match... I'm just worried that they've changed it! They've been seen around Heol-y-cyw a few days ago and it just worries me that they've come back to steal as nothign went then? and i dunno there was just something funny about this guy?

I know I was thinking it might be all a scam until she told me about this last night. Apparently, they were in a white transit and talked to her mate

report what YOU saw to the police too. It doesnt matter that the plates dont match the vehicle your friend saw, you were suspicious of what you saw therefore you need to let someone know.

have done... can anyone confirm that it's a mercedes type transit? also have allerted yard owner as it would be a field very easy to steal from, even if it wasn't them it was suspicious!

the hpi my dad did with the orignial plate n253 xaj said it was a ford transit i will try post the hpi report. (NB: these are believed to be false plates - these plates belong to a cream ford minibus, which is not involved in stealing horses - read more about this number plate)

thats ok then, this was a merc. Was just worried as heard they were in the area and if those horses went missing wouldn't be able to forgive myself! The guy was definitely doing something dodgy though so have alerted owner with details etc.

They can sedate a horse easily, so it shouldn`t take a lot to load a horse.

The reg number that has been circulating in Notts and Derbys is N253 XAJ.
the same number has also appeared on a black peugeot saloon.
They were spotted in Hockley Essex Yesterday.

How does one look eastern european?

I am part polish and have eastern european features, although of course features are diff depending where in eastern europe these people are coming from. I suspect kosavo or romania but who can be sure? Anyway usually eastern europeans have a very yellow undertone to their skin, they can be very pale but it will be pale yellow as opposed to pale red undertones that the english get. They are usually have piercing blue eyes and high cheekbones, I find it very easy to pick out when a person is eastern european but maybe that's because I live in london so it's very multicultural here and I work with a romanian and a polish girl!

Finkley, I can tell the diff between someone who is African and Jamaican, a somalian from an ethiopian and a person who is a polish romany from an Albanian. There are just some that will see that as a racist comment. It is not, you can also tell an Irish person if they are irish threw and threw, just as I can tell a traveller by the way they speak, different dialect.

thiis is realii scary because all the same is happening in lancashire lots horses and ponies have been stolen and was related to a white van and eastern european men
it is belived they are stealing them for appleby horse sale which is happening next weekend so for all u who have had a your horses stolen lately get to appleby in cumbria
but lets hope it cools down after then and we can all sleep at night. x

Thats the same reg thats doing the rounds up here!Van is accompanied by a red land cruiser apparently.
Oh we are in Aberdeen so it must be a bl***y fast van!

should i let them know that some random guy i've never seen before came and took pictures of me jumping sky? didnt say anything becase didnt think anything of it at the time, hadnt got a car he was on a bike, could of had a van further down the road becuase theres loads of horse feilds where i am and he could of been going round on a bike taking pictures of all of them to lok less suspicious

Hiya just to add if the registration of the original number plate of N253 XAJ (NB: these are believed to be false plates - these plates belong to a cream ford minibus, which is not involved in stealing horses - read more about this number plate) has been seen on a Peugeot this needs to be reported to the Police as the DVLA has no record of that number plate against that car. It is only registered as far as I am aware to a white Ford Transit van.
The Mercedes white van reg M956 RDW needs to be checked out. If you see this vehicle on the roads please post on here or contact the police for further advice as this vehicle is showing that the road tax is due today 1st June.
As for the Toyota Landcruiser the number plate checks out and the tax is not due on that car until 1st Nov.
What is very strange about all the vehicles mentioned though is that their year of manufacture is 1995.
M and N reg would be about correct for the year but B I am not so sure and I am wondering if this is a self number plate?
The vehicle is matching to a red Toyota with the reg B etc at the DVLA but the year does no tally in my opinion which is why it could be self number plate.

Have just read another post by another user and they have done a HPI check on the vehicle. The landcruiser was previously registered as N891 TVC which now tallies with the registration of 1995.
Whether this person who is driving the vehicle now bought it with a self number plate I don't know? If they purchased one afterwards though it would show that they either have a bit of dosh or are very astute, or even both.
I think all we can do is to be vigilant and wherever and whenever these vehicles are seen it needs to be reported to the police and wherever possible post the information on here or other horse forums.
I hope whoever is responsible for the theft of these much loved horses and ponies -that is happening up and down the country at the moment- is caught and the animals retrieved safely.
