hey guys, i just had my baby clipped, full clip, and i think i may have made a mistake in not leaving a saddle patch.
i rode last sunday and all was well, had him clipped tues, rode thurs and the whole ride which was only a gentle walk as he is just getting back into work, his withers were twitching, we only stayed out for 30mins and aftwer washing him down etc i ran my hands across his back, either side of his spine and he was very back sore, where the saddle ends, he dipped and wouldnt let me near his back after that.
today he has been extremely sore again. i put his saddle on him which he wasnt happy with, he seemed more comfortable with a sheepskin numnar on instead of his usual one, but still, when he is bare backed and i gently press either side of his spine where the saddle ends, he dips badly.

I also used surgical spirits on his back after noticing he was sore

Any ideas greatly appreiciated as this is really upsetting.

i havent had the saddle lady out as of yet as it is too much of a coincidence that he was perfectly sound 2 days before clipping, then all of a sudden he is sore, i have a bowing therapist comes out every month as he had a badly fitted saddle when i bought him, causing issues, but he has been fine now for 8 months, she just comes to keep on top of things for us
he is a sensitive horse anyway, but he seems fine running free in his field

I have had exactly the same problem. Mine was clipped by a friend (who clips professionally) and for some reason she had the clippers far too tight and shaved him big time.

Ever since we have had a nightmare with his back and he is constantly sore just like yours. The whole thing has resulted in weeks off work, physio every week because he has thrown himself out completely trying to avoid the sore back and I am furious with myself that I didn't realise what was going on.

I'd definately get the saddle checked and maybe look at a numnah that has shock absorbers in it as this is the only way I have managed to settle mine down.

Whatever you do, don't go on riding, I did and managed to put the horse through a load of pain and cost myself a fortune.:o:(

i wasnt planning on riding id hate to make him worse, so my best bet then is to get saddle lady out and maybe get a numna with shock absorbers.
i have already rung my bowing therapist so will get her to look also and hopefully get him sound again.
thanks for quick advice

I had a similar experience after a second clip last year and his saddle patch was removed his coat rubbed out after a few short hacks.
I found numnahs with a seam or binding at the back rubbed his coat away, so used a bartle sheepskin till all was better.
Now use a barnsby or a numed non slip all the time now with no ill effects.
Also sticking to chaser clips!:D
