A bit of a strange question, I have a horse with unknown breeding but is very thoroughbred by the looks of things and everyone else agrees with me. Is there any way I could register her to do thoroughbred showing classes or is it too late at 8? Appreciate this might be a really dumb question but I thought I'd give it a shot

If you are talking about the more formal ROR then no.

If you are talking local unaff then they are unlikely to even ask you!
Thank you! Only looking to do small shows in the summer don't know if I'd even like it but with an unregistered horse it's hard to find anything that suits us! I would feel a bit of an imposter though

As above get your vet to check for a microchip as all racehorses have been microchipped since 1999. You might find out more about him. Friend bought a horse that didn’t know was thoroughbred and found out he’d raced.

There should be plenty at local shows for horses with non registered breeding (and I actually have never seen a tb class at small local shows!).

Riding horse (most likely) or lightweight hunter (depending on stamp of horse) would be the most formal categories - but anything like RC horse, tack & turnout, general rider classes will be fine

I'm a complete novice when it comes to showing tbh so it wouldn't surprise me if I've overlooked something! Every time I look at the lists for shows I get so lost with all the terminology

I don’t know re: the showing, but is there a chance the horse is a Standardbred? I’ve heard of a few turning up un passported/ breeding undeclared? Definitely worth getting scanned for chip(s)?

Could be I guess but her build and behaviour is more thoroughbred than standardbred but I don't have much experience with the standardbred breed so I don't think I could tell!

I had a horse who was thoroughbred but not raced. Was bred with the intention of hunting and pointing I think. He would do riding horse (that was what he properly was affiliated), hunter (unaffiliated didn’t generally look out of of place), riding club horse which generally involves a couple of jumps, working hunter, best turned out, sports horse, light horse, competition horse, best rider, best combination, style and performance pretty much anything you could think of other than mountain and moorland or coloured or Arab. Even did a family horse or pony once as had time to kill at a show. Enjoy.
