I've never been a fan of thoroughbreds, think they are stunning but I've just never trusted them. And Always always say I'd never have one, and never wanted to ride one, because I've had the image in my head of them being absolutely bonkers.

yesterday I went to visit my friend who I've not seen for AGEESSSS. he has 3 tbs. He let me have a ride of his showjumper. 16hh ex racer.
I was a little nervous of getting on, but I watched my friend ride, and the horse seemed nice, so I got on.
He was a lot bouncier in trot and canter then my girl, but apparently I didnt bounce about so its ok :) And he was lovely

So I can now say that not all thoroughbreds are mad, and I've changed my mind about them :) (Although I still don't think I'd own one)

Wow he's a gorgeous looking lad...

I was a complete shire/clydey nut and TB's were just not on the radar. Same as you I'd heard so much bad press it wasn't an option.

And the voices up here all said I was mad to go look at one and an ex-racer and a chestnut and only 5...

They are fantastic aren't they? I just wouldn't have anything else. So glad you liked riding one :)

Only one teeny drawback... oh the bills... food, vets, rugs, SHOES...

i had no time for pure bred Tbs till about 5 or 6 years ago, when one came to live with me to look after, although I did like part bred Tbs already.
Totally not what I was expecting and about one of the sweetest best behaved mares ive ever had the pleasure to know.
Changed my mind about thoroughbreds because of her and now have pure breds as well as part breds

Im another convert, always loved the look of them but thought they would be too much horse for me. Che is the most loving, easy horse to do, he really seems to enjoy his life as a retired racehorse! I think it is a classic case of treat each one as an individual and try not to pre judge. RG, you look really nice on your friends horse, hope you dont mind me saying but you look as if you have a really good seat position. Lovely looking horse too.

Good on ya!! I see a TB in your future lol!! Ive got an ex-racer and in all the years ive had her can honestly say have never felt unsafe on her, yes she was fizzy and fast but never unsafe and I trusted her 100%, she is now 30 and fully retired. my clydie cross cob thats a whole different story lol!!

MyBoyChe: Thank you :) I always get told to stop putting myself down about my riding so a compliment like that means a lot to me :)
Keltic: Maybe one day :p lol, I'm halfway there with my shirextb. :D

I said the same, I did not think I would ever own a TB, as had always thought they were unpredictable, but when I wanted another horse, and had not a big budget, we decided to look at ex-racers!! EEK! Having done my research and checking a few ex-racers out, I can clearly say they are not all mad - I only knew of one that went a bit la la (which probably made me initially nervous of them!), but our lad is a complete dope .

I was the same, ask montyforever on here, all I ever said was TB's are crazy aand give me a cob anyday! Then I went to work with racehorses, still saying I wouldn't own one cause they were all mental. Then my boss gave me Ethel for free, and I couldn't have asked for a better horse! She has a forever home with me now, I wouldn't ever be able to sell her :)
