Thoroughpin and lameness?

After warming up in walk for 10 minutes, and then going into trot, my RI stopped me and said that my horse was unlevel. Just so happens that at the time, a helluva rain storm kicked off so he was all over the place anyway, and hence I can't say that I felt it. However, my RI is very experienced and well qualified. She said that he has a thoroughpin, nothing to worry about although to lay off schooling and just go out hacking (walk only) for a couple of weeks, cold hose it/use a cooling gel as there is a bit of heat in it. She reckons it'll sort itself out and that there is no real point in calling a vet at this stage.

Thing is, I didn't think that thoroughpins were associated with lameness. Could I have your opinions please? Thanks.

Has the horse always had the thoroughpin or has it recently developed?

No. Just yesterday RI pulled up up before we'd even really got started, and said he was short on that leg. She felt down his leg and around his hock and said that he had a small thoroughpin and there was a bit of heat there, to keep him out of the school for a couple of weeks but otherwise not to worry.

Thing is, I can't see anything or - if I'm honest - feel anything. I thought thoroughpins were very visible and that you could push them from one side of the hock to the other?
