I am looking to buy a Thorowgood Cob GP saddle for my small roly-poly mare. She currently has a T4 dressage saddle that does not have the interchangeable gullet. I want to get her a GP for our whizzy rides where we might do the odd small jump. It seems to me that the T4 Cob GP has changed fairly recently and I am wondering about the differences between the two models. The old model (with round stud) has no creases in the knee rolls and looks fairly straight cut but the new model (with the oval stud) has a crease in the knee roll and looks much more forward cut. I am a bit worried about the flap interfering with her shoulder as she is gaited.

Does anyone have any experience of the two T4 models? Is the newer saddle much more forward cut? Is there any difference between rider position and comfort? And is the T6 different in anything other than the materials used?

The best thing to do is find a fitter, try the new saddle, ride in it and see if it suits your horse and your requirments. If she is very round she may need the cob plus model.

Sadly my local fitter doesn't have a single 17" saddle in stock, they have all been sold and new stock is at least 4 weeks away. But anyhow, what I was really interested in was the difference between the current model and the previous one, she only carries the new model.

The newer one is cut just the same underneath, the only difference being that the flap is more forward cut. This does not affect the straight cut of the panel against the horse. The newer models are of a much better quality too.
