After several teeth back and saddle issues I'm now ready to bring Jim back into work but I need a new saddle first.
I want a secondhand thorowgood cob 16.5 (or 17" at a push) with changeable gullet system (gone from a x wide to a xx wide in a few months need something that can change with him!) in brown, but there are none to be found on eBay or preloved :-( anyone know where else to look or any reputable saddlers in s Yorkshire that may carry second hand?
Left over mince pies and choccy for all!

I'm going to be looking for a T'good Cob "Plus" in a few months (the version for the wider, shorter-backed cob). You NEVER see those advertised second-hand. So either people never buy them or they're so good that they don't want to part with them. Guess I'll have to buy new then.....

I am about to take to the saddler (this afternoon) to see if I can get him to sell it a brown 17" T4 cob but has the fish inserts. Used a few times on my newly backed mare before she started to event and needed separate dressage and jumping saddles.

Faldingwood livery, I've seen your ad, there both lovely saddles and a bargain but not quite right :-( I need a changeable gullet as he insists on keeping growing! Gah!
Saving grace: thanks so much but it's black, I desperately want brown, I'm so picky! But might be perfect for you Domane as it is indeed a cob plus!
Hic: does it have the changable gullet system?

I have a 17 inch t6 cob in black which I want to sell. I am in Somerset. Pm me if interested. It has a changeable gullet but can't remember which one is currently in it.

You probably can't find one as I think they only start at 17". I had a t6 cob and it was way too big for both me and pony. Couldn't get rid of it at all and ended up selling it practically new for £200.

Thanks kirsty, getting a saddle for a cob is an out and out nightmare! He's just rising 5 so changing all the time. I can't change saddles every few months so finding a t'good cob until he settles on a permenant shape seems the only option :-( x

I sold a brown 17" xw cob about 6 months ago, they were quite a few on ebay at the time, maybe it's the time of year? lol

however, mine wasn't a changeable gullet but they were quite a few on there, I thought mine wouldn't sell cos it was up against them - but it did pretty fast thankfully!

Mines a welsh x coloured cob. I show him and I find a show saddle is the only thing that sits and fits correctly! Obviously for hacking I don't want to use my show saddle so had to find something else. He's in a Wintec wide but I find I need to pad it up as for the correct gullet to fit him width wise, i find the saddle quite low if that makes sense. If I could get a cheap show saddle I would use that all the time!

Ditto this. Maybe you could try a 16.5" Thorowgood Pony Club? They also have quite broad panels as designed for roly poly ponies! Tried both on my flat-backed arab x recently and didn't notice much difference.

I got a 17" one on Ebay earlier this year.

It was advertised as "thorogood saddle for cobb etc" [sic]
First question was asking if it had changeable gullet. Answer no.

... but I immediately recognised it for what it was - brown, newish model, cob model, T4 3D ... Paid £140 for it and couldn't breathe until it arrived :D :D :D It was perfect! (and even came with an extra gullet so I guess someone didn't know what they had)

Thorowgood Cob saddles in brown are worse than hen's teeth to find secondhand. I tried to find one at the start of the year to no avail, and even brand new they're soooo hard to find. I did manage to get one from TDS Saddlers though - I know they aren't local to you but their delivery service was really good, and when I had to send it back due to being to small for my legs, they were really good about that too. I'd recommend ringing them though - they didn't list brown on the website, it was only as I asked them if they had one in stock that I got it.

I, it seems, was lucky enough to buy a brown thorowgood saddle secondhand about 16 years ago second hand. Someone had brought it up the stables to try on their cob, but it was too small. I tried it on mine and it fitted. Cost me £40 - never looked back - never used my leather one again! Had my old horse PTS in april, got a new horse in August, took said saddle to see if it fitted and it did, so it's now in use again! A few people have said to me "That's a nice saddle" and when (very seldom) someone else had ridden my horse, they've said how comfy it is. Pure luck!

Don't give up! I got a brown 17 inch t4 3d cob from eBay for 185 quid a couple of months ago... Brand new condition too. Quick change of gullet from my saddler and good to go - love it!
