Thorowgood Dressage Girths

Does anyone have one, and do you rate them? I have a Thorowgood dressage saddle but have been using a leather girth with it; however, the girth has been rubbing Elz just behind her shoulder

My instructor thinks its because the shape of a dressage girth is different to the GP one she is used to, plus she has always been sensitive there. I bought a Stevens sheepskin sleeve but I can never get it to stay in place - am gutted because it was very expensive, but there isnt much I can do!

So now I'm thinking that the Thorowgood girth (or a Wintec, dont really mind) would be the best thing to go for - I'm just a bit worried that the material may make her sweat more? Have only ever had leather or cotton in the past!

Also a long shot, but can anyone tell me if Wadswick, Elmgrove, Countrywide or any other saddlery in Wiltshire sell them?! Dont want to make a wasted journey as I should be studying, but I desperately need one by tomorrow evening!

I have one and I love it, it's nice and wide and it's shaped too unlike the Wintec ones. Elastic both ends (can't stand one-sided girths). Yes it does make them sweat but it is about as breathable as it can be, it has lots of holes in. It'd be worth a try, especially if you have been using a straight dressage girth and that's why it's rubbed as the Thorowgood ones are, as I said, curved

I don't know about those tack shops as I'm not as far north as you, but I'm 99% certain Equishop in Wilton sells them.
 
Ooooh I've never been to Equishop! Is it big? Might be worth a look....Wilton only takes 3/4 of an hour to get to from here...

i like them - they do make them sweat but the material doesn't get stiff when the sweat dries - it's nice and bendy. my leather dressage girth rubbed my sensitive boy so i've now got a Thorowgood one and a Nuumed fluffy girth sleeve on it and the rubs are healing

I have one on my cc jumping saddle, which I use for everything - it's great. Never had any problems rubbing or chaffing, even on long hacks.

It isn't huge but it's not a tiny tack shop. It's quite nice and always worth a visit, they are always very friendly (too friendly IMO, I used to work there and I had the lovely job of pouncing on people as the entered the shop to ask if they wanted a tea or a coffee...) and always willing to help. It can be a bit hard to find though, look out for the Reeve the Baker sign and if you get to the bridge/turning for the park and ride, you've gone too far!

I'm surprised that your girth sleeve slipped, its not a problem I've ever had. Surely once your girth is done up tight it is held in place?

Nope, it stays in place one side, but slips the other. It's not a full sleeve - its one where the velcro goes over the girth:

Like this one...

One side stays in place fine, but on the near side, the girth cover slips back behind the girth. I've tried swapping it over and tying it in place, but for some reason it still moves.

I had to replace my leather one for a wintec (or whichever it is, its shaped). have to say my horse was being rubbed by where the buckles were behaind her shoulder, and the wintec is much better because the buckles arent at the end of the girth.
