This is the saddle that came with my boy, it’s definitely too wide now but may be ok with a different gullet? I’ve never used a Thorowgood before, does anyone know which model it is and if it’s flocked - can it be altered at all except for the gullet width? The cantle is square, is this a ‘cob’ model?

Also, it’s been stored badly and the flap is misshapen :( is there any way to correct that?

Would really prefer not to buy a new saddle if I can get this one to fit...super skint with a million other things to buy right now!

With the square cantle it’ll either be a cob or pony saddle, all TG saddles are flocked so you should be able to get both that adjusted and the gullet plate changed so long as the tree is the right shape & size:)

I wouldn’t worry about the flap, once it’s in use it’ll likely go back to how it should be.

I'd say that was a T4 and would probably come good just with proper storage and use. It can be reflocked and there are access points under the flap near the top of the girth straps. The Thorowgood saddles are generally good for adjustment I believe. Good luck.

I used to have a T4 years ago and found the same thing with the flaps, they curved up. I did store it properly, it just happened :(

Edited to say they are reflockable!

Have a T6 and that would probably be my only criticism, the flaps do curl up, especially in hot weather, plus the inside of long leather boots can stick to them. Ariat Bromont type boots with the suede on the inside are fine. They are good, lightweight saddles and easy to adjust for a decent saddle fitter. I was really not keen when my saddler suggested at Thorowgood for my tricky-to-fit and very particular quarter horse mare but the saddle was comfortable on her and she went very well in it.

Square cantle is cob, if it also has a brass badge on the back saying "Pony Club" then I'm sure you can guess which model it is :). The cob saddle has had a couple of variations developed recently I think but if it's more than a couple of years old or so then it's just the cob model.
