I have a bid in for one of these on ebay, and the seller has just emailed me this...

"Hi
I have just had a friend look at the saddle for the changable gullet system, however between the two of us we cannot see how this works! So I can no longer gareentee if it has an adjustable gullet system you may no more than i do? Please let me know if you still want to bid?"

Does anyone have one that can tell me (so I can tell the seller) what to look for to make sure this is the changeable gullet version and not a standard griffin?

Cheers people!!!

Hi, I've got a Thorowgood T4 and the changeable gullet system is by using various sized oblong discs called 'fish' which slide in pockets either side of the pommel under the saddle flap.
Make sure you are supplied with the fish for the saddle you are buying, though I guess replacements can be easily got hold of.

Very comfy saddles - most recommnded........

Good luck

Hmmmm, this isn't a T4 and they refer to a changeable gullet bar - more like a wintec I guess? Not fishies. Which is a shame as I like the sound of the fishies but I need a cheapy temporary saddle while I save up for a made to measure.

Lets just say hacking up and down steep hills in a dressage saddle isn't recommended!!!

fish are easy to get hold of and if the saddle is fish system then you will also have gullet that is changeable but this has to be done by a saddler.
The system its self is no obvious as it just slots in.

As a Thorowgood agent, I can advise that there are 2 types of T4 saddle, the old version T4 with only the fish system (atleast 2 years old) and the current T4 3D, which has the changable gullet bars and the fish system, the way to tell the differance is to look under the pommel of the saddle, and if there are two screws, (like the Wintec saddles) one each side that will be the 3D model.

Hope that helps.

I would say so, it is very confusing but hava a look at the thorowgood range on the website you can phone them too as they are really helpful & lovely

I should have known £55 plus P&P was too good to be true!!!! I'm such a skinflint!!!

But if I'm saving for an Ideal meade to measure, I just want a temporary saddle, and I hate Wintecs. The fishies sounded good as Madam is only just coming back in to work after the foal and has changed shape and will change back. I swapped her GP for a dressage saddle last year, as it fitted but not great, but I can't hack on our terrain in the dressage, too hair raising!
