Pepper Pot needs a new saddle, which you will already know if you saw my other post about the the saddle fitter visiting and leaving me with a lame pony.
Anyway, needless to say she won't be coming back! But it want to get a local master saddler out know, and originally I was looking a Wintecs, (has to be synthetic/syntheticXleather due to the weight) the wintec 2000 to be exact, but this saddle fitter (a very reputable man and saddle fitter for many, many years) does not endorse them, nor does he recommend them. Instead he supports Thorowgood, as a personal preference and sells these in his shop.
He has said he will get a wintec in if I want one but recommends the Thorowgood.
I don't really have any experience of these? Can anyone tell me what they're like, good or bad!?
(The T8 or T4 gp)
Thanking you muchly!!

I was a winter user for quite a lot of years, but recently (early last year) was advised to try a thorowgood saddle on my mare. I have to say that for the money they are, and the job they do, I was pleasantly surprised. I have a T4, ended up with brown, as that was what was available, but it looks really smart. The saddle itself I have found far more comfortable that the wintecs.

However - as another alternative, I have recently had a Heather Moffat FlexEE saddle for my other mare. While the Wintec / Thorowgood saddles are very much lighter than traditional leather saddles - the HM FlexEE is about 10 times lighter than the Wintec or TG saddles. If you can find someone near you that you can try on - I would definitely recommend it.

My mare is tricky to fit and the HM is a beaut on her. plus they are faaaaaar more comfy than wintec or TG :)

I've had both types and did prefer a thorowgood, they are more comfortable but as far as fit goes I think the winter fit my wide pony a lot better. Speaking as someone who has spent over 3000 pound on different saddles after multiple problems, from both wintec and thorowgood I would really recommend talking to the native saddlecompany they are superb.
