Anyone use them?
Are they any good?
How good is the fish system?

My 3 year old cob needs a saddle and have been looking at the Maxam Cob GP. Just to start him off in, as it cheap and adjustable so i can alter it as he grows. Sounds perfect, but will it work.
My friend says i should get a saddle fitted by a saddle fitter, but i havenet got £500 ish to spare and then it probably wont fit in 6 months!?!
Another friend uses synthetic saddles and keeps leather for vest, she says theyre great??

Any info would be greatly appreciated xxx

Or if you haave any other ideas for a saddle??? xxx

2 out of our 3 horses have thorowgoods. Both are like barrells and are very difficult to shop for.

We had a master saddler out and he recommended thorowgoods, so they must be ok! We bought an £800 saddle for one and a £400 for another, but neither fitted properly, so we went for the thorowgoods. No probs since!!! They came with the fish system, but we haven't needed to use it, so cant comment on that.

There's no point in you spending loads on a saddle that prob wont fit him in 6 months, so i'd deffinately go for a thorowgood. Plus, im a REALLY lazy tack cleaner, so the syntheticness is a bonus!!

I have an old thorowgood (before all this fish stuff!) and I really like it. I have a griffin. I wasn't too keen on the maxim, for for something to use for a year or so it would probably work well - very lightweight and difficult to ruin.

Right, I own a High-wither T4, a GP Cob T6, and a GP Cob Maxam. Used to own a Maxam Pony and a Safari Cub saddle also... My 19 yr old ex-racer really suits his T4, and the T6 Cob GP is really good... Rate it 100% as I can show, dressage and jump in it! It's brill!

The fish system works really well, and is incredibly easy to use... You just stick it in!

I love their girths, numnahs, stirrup-leathers and headcollars, although I'm not too keen on the leadrope, although I know lots of people who really rate it.

Love them. I've had 4, both GP and endurance, and one Maxam to start my youngster in. The latest one has the fish system which seems to suit - coincidentally I had my saddle fitter out this afternoon to check the saddle, as I do every six months, and she was very pleased with the muscle development behind the shoulder - no sign of atrophy and the muscle obviously has plenty of room to move.

They're also very comfortable for the rider and so easy to maintain!

I have one for my broad cob and it has been great. I clock up hours and hours of hacking in mine, it is always comfy and looks well with a quick clean.
