Thorowgood saddles

yep, i found that with mine. I even used it on two horses - one wide gullet, one narrow - and still found myself perched forward on both. They are handy saddles but hands down prefer riding in my albion. never have taken to the thorowgood.

The new ones, esp the cob version, have a very deep rear panel and therefore tilt the saddle forwards. It's easily fixed by getting a saddler to remove a little flocking.

I tried out a T4 saddle on my cob......... has to have been THE most uncomfortable saddle I've EVER ridden in. Only rode it in for half an hour before I had to get off and walk.

Awful things:(

I'm totally the opposite. I find the cob saddle soooooooo comfy to ride in but HATE any 'standard' saddle with a normal twist. Rode a friends horse recently and was desperate to get off!

I have a thorowgood for my tb. Has been great while I've been hacking but now I'm do lots of schooling, have noticed that i'm tilted forward by the saddle. Also want to start jumping now but knee blocks are small, think I will go flying! I've been looking at the Albion Selecta.

I have a thorowgood saddle, t4 high wither, only ridden in it once, but it a lot better than some leather saddles I've sat in!

I've had very good experiences with Thorowgood. My friend's ID x TB had a T4 which was very comfortable and put my legs in exactly the right place. Then I got a T8 for my own horse and have recently swapped it for a T8 low profile - just because it fits her better. I agree the blocks are quite small but that's never caused a problem..... but then I don't normally jump more than 2'9". Might change my tune if I did!

I've had bad experiences of the T4 GP and then the T4 dessage. Both tipped me forwards and bounced excessively at the back, they were fitted by a very well thought of fitter who said they were a good fit, however I was very unhappy with both, and my instructors agreed, just not right at all.

I found this too. I usually ride in a Jeffries saddle but have a TG too, never felt as comfortable in the TG and I did feel as if I was being tipped forward. The saddler did alter the flocking which has helped massively, but I've never been so aware of it in any other saddle and much prefer my jeffries.

Haha!! this ^^ the cob saddle is awful, had one for 3 days and after 20 mins on a hack i had to get off and walk :( mare didnt like it either!
Swopped to a T8 GP and it was completley the opposite, lovely - the most comfortable saddle ever!!
Sold it a few weeks back as wanted something more permanent for my cob :)

I have a dressage saddle and find it very comfortable. But maybe it's because my horse has a high wither and a bit of a dippy back and saddles tend to slip back a little on him. I have an Albion for jumping which I also love.
