Hi everyone,
Just got a Thorowgood T4 GP Cob as sooo much better fit than the standard T4 GP on my big boned mare. Saddle fits her like a glove, but I'm not very comfortable in it. The twist is very "flat" and while it's OK on the flat, I feel quite lost over jumps. Was planning to do some cross country this year and am a bit nervous about the saddle now.

Anyone got any experienced with this saddle? I've only ridden in it 4 times, so am I being hasty? Is there anything I can do (e.g. play around with thigh/knee block, etc) to make it more secure for me? It's only a 17.5 and I definitely am in the right size of seat ... it just feels very different.

I've got one (two actually on two horses) and I find it very comfortable and secure. Though I haven't jumped in it yet.

Just a thought - are your stirrups the right length for jumping? And are you sure it's fitted correctly to the mare?

Definitely fitted to the mare - master saddler I actually trust (I don't trust all of them!) and her way of going has improved despite my apparent unease.

Stirrup length might be an issue. Will play around with that.

One positive response is making me hopeful. Probably just need to get used to the new feel!

Check you've got your blocks in the right position for jumping. I've removed the back blocks completely and take out the front blocks when doing dressage. I find it a very comfortable and safe (well safe for me..cos I'm useless at jumping)saddle for jumping.
