Hi all.
The saddle fitter came out last week to see my table of a cob. Her flexi measurements show that she's almost as flat as a table with literally no wither.
She's rising 5 and changing shape everyday, bum high and far too round thanks to all the bloody grass. Saddler said my mare would be in the second to widest gullet size (yellow?)

The saddler recommended Thorowgood as the go to saddle for cobs. She recommended the T4 Cob and the T8 cob. The T8 is out of my budget, the T4 within budget but if I'm being picky I don't like the suede seat and knee rolls.

After trawling eBay I have found a few T6's for sale that look a lot nicer than the T4 without the higher price of the T8 model.
Has anyone got a T6? If so how do you like it?
If the T6 is no good then obviously I'll do what's best for my mare and get a T4 for her, but thought I'd check to see if anyone has any experiences with the T6 (good or bad)

If anyone has one to sell do please let me know, not having a saddle is rubbish when I have a horse that needs exercise and thrives on learning and routine riding.

Thanks in advance, late night biscuits if you got this far :)

I had a T6 cob as a temporary saddle. I'm not really a fan of synthetics but was happily surprised by the T6 and actually quite liked it to ride in, certainly comfy enough and much smarter looking without the fake suede of the T4.

I sold mine last week on eBay for just over £200, which was more than I brought if for so quite happy!

That's really good to hear, if only you had been selling a week later I would have bitten your hand off! I've got my eye on a few T6's but they're at the £300 mark and I could do with selling my current outgrown saddle before investing

I found the key to buying one on eBay was not to search for t6 cob but just thorowgood saddles then trawl through the junk to identify the right ones and ask questions where you're not sure if it's adjustable gullet or the right seat size.

When I found it to buy on ebay it was just listed as a thorowgood and not t6 cob but photos were enough to identify which model it was - helped that they'd set it to end mid-week daytime as well, always easier to win cheaply with a last second bid!

This is so helpful, thank you! :)
Trawling eBay commences tomorrow :D

Also worth looking on Facebook groups,I got a T8 for £300 on there. I also dislike the suede,so was searching for a T6,but people seem to hang on to them!

I would also invest in a good quality seat saver whilst you're at it. I have the t4 which serves it's purpose (the suede hasn't worn on mine so still looks nice but agree the older/less cared for ones where it's worn aren't so nice to look at) but it's the most uncomfortable thing ever to sit on!

Thanks, I've got a Acavallo gel out that I used on the nasty synthetic stop gap saddle a few months ago and really do find it makes a difference to my knackered back so I'll be using that anyway :)

How do I find out what version thorowgood I have? I've got one if happily sell that you can change the gullet plate in but no idea which version it is.

Edit: Ignore me, it's the standard rather than cob version.

It should have a serial number, on a little tab under the saddle flap. If you email Thorowgood, they'll tell you everything, including year of manufacture

I had a T4 cob which I used to use on my pony. It was great while it fitted but I had to invest in a new saddle recently. To be honest I had the saddle 5 or so years and I looked after it but it looks trashed now ☹️ Really hard to use them everyday and keep them looking good. But I won't sell as it's now not worth a lot and I think they are great saddles incase I should ever have another pony.

I have an original changeble gullet T6 and it's still in great condition and still used ten years on :)
I love TG saddles I've had 6 now ( mostly for different horses) and if I had the budget I'd have a Kent and Masters as same saddle just fully leather :)

Thank you all!
I've bitten the bullet and bought a second hand T6 cob on eBay. It was a bargain price and if the saddler says it doesn't fit for any reason then I'll resell it :)

I had the T4 Cob and absolutely hated it. I hate Thorowgood saddles anyway having had one previously but I didnt have a choice as it was the only thing that fitted my horse early on. It was hard, very uncomfortable with no support to jump in or just in general. I felt perched on top. I got rid of it as soon as I could (had my WOW adapted) and would never by choice have another! Between that and the other main synthetic cob saddle Wintec, which Ive also had before for a Welsh Cob, I preferred the Wintec.
