My Connemara X TB youngster has totally changed shape since we backed her last year, where she was a thin high withered immature, more on the thoroughbred side, she is now more ponyish, solid and has taken on more of the Connemara characteristics.
I rode her last year in an ancient Thorowgood Maxam in a narrow fitting, had a year off (due to impending motherhood) and she has matured. I have tried a 17inch Wintec VSD with a wide gullet, but the Wintec tree is too curved for her back. I bought a 17 inch Thorowgood T6 (pre changeable gullet) in a medium/wide fitting, removing the fish. This still seemed on the narrow side, but the tree looked a lot better, however it still lifted at the back. I'm going to have to put both of these back on ebay!
I also have tried her in a 16.5 inch Thorowgood Griffin pony club saddle that fits my other mare - this was the best fit, but I would prefer a 17 inch saddle, and one that I can adjust if she loses weight. She currently has flat withers, a flat back, but tiny narrow shoulders and chest.
What do people think of the GFS Genesis? What type of horse is it suited to? I would like to stick with a synthetic if poss. I am now on the lookout for one of them or a 17 inch Thorowgood T4 or T6 cob with changeable gullet - i'm mad cos I had a T6 Cob in the garage that I sold in the new year cos I assumed it was totally useless on either of my mares - now i'm really mad!
