Hoping to change our lorry later in the year, main reason being that we can't fit all 3 of our horses in our lorry!! We have an elderly bedford, and are lookig to spend maybe £20k on a new one (if OH gets his OTE!).
Was looking at some websites and came accross Thorpe, as they look like they a)might take Part Ex, which would save the hassle of selling Bluebell the bedford privately, and b)we could look at a few in a day rather than traipsing round the country looking at a load of rubbish like we did to find blueb in the first place!!
Anyone any experience of thorpe either as a builder or just to buy second hand from? Any other recommendations? We may still go down the route of spending slightly more and having one built but this seems possibly more straightforward.

NB We will be looking for something with a minimum payload of 1.8t (600kg ISH x WB, 550kg WB and 450kg arab would be biggest load plus us and basic tack!! Would usually be the arab plus ISH/WB if going to comps as other WB only goes to hacks/sponsored rides). Can go hgv 10t or 11t as have licence so that may be best option. Hence why would be nice to go somewhere with a bit of choice.

Cookies for reading all that!

Thorpe are brilliant, bought my lorry from them 5 years ago and never had one problem with it. Very helpful and decently priced.

Someone offered me 2 grand over what I paid (5 years ago)for it a year ago - should have taken it and run!! lol. Anyway I would definitely recommend them.

Some one on here earlier this year went to look at Thorpes range of second hand used stuff, and said there werent half as nice as in the pictures full of rust and not worth what they were looking for.
Dont know where in country you are but I know of a 02 plate 75E17 Euro Cargo 7.5 ton for sale, luxury 2 horse. very nice horse area and lovley living and plenty of payload tilt cab. And Ive driven it incredible easy gear box nice smooth brakes. Its at Newbert horse boxes, and they will do a px on the Bedford Iam sure. They have a web site or PM me if you want their number.

Our old lorry was Thorpe, and we sold it back to them to sell on. It was a great lorry, and the people seemed helpful...

Thanks all - quirky will look at those too thanks.
Steelydan thanks, needs to take 3 though and not looking quite yet but hopethey manage to sell the iveco.
Any more opinions gratefully recieved!

I know 3 people who've got them & are v pleased with them. One of them PX'd their old Thorpe for a newer version.
Seem to be nice people to deal with & not too expensive.

I've got a McNeil Equinox which I had built about 4 years ago & have been v v pleased with.

I am about to sell my Thorpe. I had it converted for me last July. It is an Eventer III on an X reg chassis (Daf 45 150) but made very short so I could use it for hunting and park it easily. It carries 3 x 16h2 or two larger horses herringbone with space for a pony etc, depending on how you arrange the partitions. It is a great lorry, but when I ordered it I had 3 horses and now I'm down to one and a pony so am back to my trailer. Thorpe were great, the lorry was made exactly to my spec and arrived on time. Such a shame (I'm still on the first tank of fuel!) as I love it, but reality says it has to go! I may send it back to Thorpe to sell but they are in Essex and I'm on the south coast so may try to sell it from home. Just got to get myself organised and place the ad! I would recommend Thorpe - I did a lot of research before ordering from them.

Bought mine from them this year, went to look at their stock and whilst we were there thay showed us a royal mil lorry that was going to be done up, we decided to have it and had it done up as we wanted, colours, graphics and stalled etc.

Very very pleased with them, helpful and quick with their work.
