Have been talking to a friend about a pony i loaned with her. He was my first loan or share etc.

Just thought it might be nice to have thread about horses we wonder about although don't actively search for. For example this pony was a nightmare when we had him and i would not want him back... but i do wonder if he ended up happy as when we visited him in his new home he was very content. I hope he is still there.

He was a black hairy FellX with a bit of a white blaze and i think 2/3 white socks. Very hairy. Called blackjack. sold to someone in hebden bridge about 6 years ago. Was cheeky and could be bolshy and sometimes strong when ridden. Would be about 10 now. No photos of him.

So, who do you wonder about? Then if anyone reads this and knows of them, maybe they will get in touch. Or if not, it's a good excuse to reminisce :)

Or this might be a really bad idea... in which case just ignore me!

I wonder about my old mare Danu. I sold her 7 years ago after three years of what at best could be described as a difficult relationship - she put me in hospital 4 times!

In the end, whilst she had stopped her bronking phase through a lot of hard work my nerve had gone and I sold her through my instructors tutor in Kent who took her in and did some work with her - particularly on her jumping as she could jump like a stag. I was young and the whole process was so painful that I don't know where she ended up - I was told she was sold to a man but that is all I knew. I've often thought of trying to trace her, but I couldn't and wouldn't want to have her back, and she was one of those where it could've been a difficult time. Knowing what I know now I would've loaned her out so I could keep track of her and if her behavioural issues returned she would've been PTS, but I was young and inexperienced (she was the first horse I owned). I feel guilty when I think about her and hope she's doing ok.

Funny isn't it - she has totally changed me as a rider and still influences me to this day. She was a 16.3hh IDxTB would've been about 6 when I sold her, bright bay with a blaze.

I think it's a nice idea, there are a few from my past I would be interested to know about now though just out of curiosity. One is a buckskin gelding, I'd guess around 15 hands and I think would be in his early teens, I think he is still in Herefordshire. I have his mum, he was sold as a result of divorce so have no way of finding out where he went.

I will follow this thread with interest.

Whats buckskin? not being rude, Ive heard it alot but i must equate to one of our colours?!

Lou x

another form of dun.

a true dun is only a dun when they have the dorsal stripe and often zebra like markings on the legs. a buckskin wont have any of the above.

When I was a kid (aeons ago :)) it would have been called yellow or golden dun. I know now that the gelding above has no dun in his parentage at all as he's the wrong breed(s). I have a dun highland now so I had to learn the difference!

I had a horse called Duncan who I sold 9 years ago. He was always a bit of a pain - standing on two legs being his favourite pastime . The lady I sold him too (naively - she bigged herself up.......) sold him after 6 months to another lady, who i think he did ok with - did some endurance etc.

Then I think he ended up in a hunting home, which tbh, was the only thing he really loved. He will be 18 this year, 15.3 bay TB, 2 white socks at the back, white stripe on face. So if anyone has/knows Duncan - let me know! :)

My first pony was called Lucky. She was about 12.2hh, grey, and would be 20yrs old now.
I only had her on loan from the age of 3 to 6 yrs old, she then went back to her owner but I have no idea what happened to her.

I've always wondered about Jupiter. She was the first pony I rode at the riding school who wasn't institutionalised nose to tail or a bucking little witch. Willing and fun, 14hh 5/6yo dark bay skewbald. Absolutely beautiful, intelligent and so willing to please and try. She was sold inside a couple of months, I can see why but I wanted her sooooo much.

It would have been around 9/10 years ago in cornwall.

I don't want to seem rude but a little buckskin info as I am kinda obsessed with colour genetics so -

Dun dilutes the colour, (makes it lighter) and causes a dorsal stripe and often primitive markings like zebra marks on the legs. On Chestnut is gives a red/fox dun, on bay you get the standard yellow dun with black points and on black you get a blue dun/grullo.

Buckskin is from a (heterozygous) single cream gene on bay, the colouring is similar to a yellow dun but with no dorsal or primitive markings but the gene is different. On chestnut it will give you palomino and on black it will make very little difference to the colour. A homozygous cream (carries 2 cream genes) will give you the pink skinned, blue eyed, creamy coated cremello (on chestnut), perlino (on bay) or smoky cream (on black).

I often wonder what happened to a bay welsh sec D, called "Taffy" and was kept in a yard in Epsom. He was 4 years old then, so is 20/21 years old now .

He was sold in 1993/94, and I always wished that I had had the money to buy him myself :(

My first pony was a very very pretty dun (but possibly buckskin having read the above posts as she had no dorsal stripe) Unfortunately my parents couldn't have got me a much more unsuitable pony as I was pretty inexperienced, (only 10 and had only ridden riding school ponied and she was only 4)! Needless to say I fell completely in love with her and she almost destroyed my confidence as she'd have me off everytime I rode her.
to cut a long story short we managed to sort her out and she was a lovely childs pony when we sold her a good few years ago now. Sadly the people we sold her to moved or something and never stayed in touch!
She'd be mid 20's now did have all her breeding paperwork when we sold her as she should have been a show pony. She was 12.2hh (although think her cert said 13hh) and called Diptford Pandora. Would love to hear if anybody does know of her! She certainly taught me a lot!

There are many whom I would love to know of their whereabouts now.Nutkin was the pony I shared with my daughter. He was a buckskin/dun about 14.3h and would now be in his late 20's.I used to loan him and when my daughter died he was sold on. I did hear he was in a riding school in the Thanet area but I don't know if that is true or not.
Also Penny my sons pony. She is 13h and would be about 15 or 16 now.She was a really forward going chestnut welsh/NF type with a flaxen mane and tail and a big white blaze. She was sold through Ashford market last year by the people who brought her from me. She was brought in the ring by a lady who deals. I would also love to hear what happened to Summer. She was sold 18 months ago now and brought by a lady who wanted her as a companion and sold her on as riding horse. She was a bay mare with a white star tb type about 15.2h and would now be in her mid to late teens. She is easily recognised as she had a hernia. She was not an easy horse and from what I have heard she has changed hands several times since I sold her

I try never to wonder about horses I have sold as once they have gone your control over their fate is gone, but having said that I had a lovely 15 bay gelding who was around 4 when I sold him called curly he would be around 15 now.
He went to a girl called gemma in eccleshall in shropshire, he was quite poorly when I bought him and cost £££ to get him right, now him I do wonder about.

I always wander about a pony i used look after at the local riding school in Thurston. He was Called Champagne, he had a white blaze and was a champagne colour, must have been about 12-12.3h and was a rescue, but cant remember with which center, all i know was it was Felixstow way... I will always remember the day the riding school closed it was 23rd December 1995, and i had to load him on the lorry... it broke my heart... I was only 13 at the time. Would love to know how he's doing, he was quite a character, and would be about 21 years old now.
Said riding school no longer exists as it was turned into a cattery.. :(

i often wonder about a lovley bright bay welsh sec D called Townies Ramasese, i used to ride him for his owner & despite his lovable tempers i adored him, really wish i could have brought him, he is about 8/10 now.

also about Noddy, a really sweet pony that belonged to a very dear friend, we had such fun hacking out on him with a push bike for the non rider untill she got a second pony & i got to ride him more. he would be in his 20's now easily.

Patrick, everyday :)

16.1hh chestnut irish draught/hunter type that I used to ride and wanted desperately to buy!

my first pony stella. she was a little fat (turned out she was preggers:( ) plod of a pony. you could have a bomb shoved up her bum and she wouldnt bat an eyelid, literally haha! But mines a succsess story :) ive found her still witht he same people who bought her off me after just over 3years and got photos off their website. I know not long but it has been a lifetime for me! My minds at rest now, i hope you all find your little treasures :)

Mickey. Everyday I wonder where he is, how he is doing. I know he is around locally, but I'm a bit too afraid to find out, as much as I want to find out. He will always be number 1 in my heart. He was my first proper pony, 12hh, welsh sec A, Bay Roan. He had/has the most gorgeous massive star. I think after my exams I will try and find out, as if he was ever for sale I would have him back in a flash.

I often wonder about my old pony Mr Darcy, he was chestnut and had a white star. He was 13.2hh and was 22 years old when i sold him and was still as fit as ever. He loved to jump and was VERY forward going :)

When i moved to suffolk five years ago i had 3 horses one a quarter horse x which went to my sister in law on loan but i keep getting contridicting story about what happened to her the latest being she was put down but i dont know if this is true or not and its horrible not knowing.
the other which is a small blue roan newforest which i tried to keep as long as possible but in the end finance made me sell her. she was sold to a woman in stow market and i used to drive pass her field regulay then one day she was gone

A few....

I wonder how my nutcase pony Cherry is. She was told to someone who stabled her near Windsor Great Park. She was 14.2 Dark Liver Chestnut mare. Late 20's early 30's now. She had lami. As much as she tried everyday to kill me, I still loved her an miss her.

I also wonder about a pony I tried out about 8 years ago called Whisper. A grey 13.2/3 mare who was 5 years old a the time. She was great and I really wanted her but she hadnt seen traffic :( I think about her a lot. Wish I could have bought her.

Also, I wonder why my pony's previous owner disappeared off the face of the earth. She claimed to have owned my pony for 10 years, the sisters all learnt to ride on her and she sobbed her heart out the day I arrived to collect Jamin but to this day I never heard a thing. I always told her she was welcome to come and see her etc. Jamin really is the best pony in the world and I would love her previous owners to see how happy she is. I would also like to find out more about her. I know that she used to be stabled in Biggin Hill area and was previously called Gemini and Minnie. She is chestnut Mare, 14hh and born in 1984. Freeze Mark 7Y49.

I wonder every single day how my little JO is. He was a 4yr old cob i bought to bring on. He was so easy to back even though i bought him as an unhandled 3yr old. He was just the sweetest pony i've ever met. I swear he thought he was a dog. If he got scared he would try to jump into your arms.
I was out hacking on him on 15th august 2008 when he got spooked by some cows. He reared up and came over backwards and i hit the road hard. As soon as i hit the floor i knew something was very wrong and i had either broken or dislocated my hip! Jo got up and trotted down the road about 100 yards but when he realised i was no longer with him he came back to me and stood nuzzling me on the ground. I was worried he would get scared and try to jump into my arms and i could not move as i didn't want to do anymore damage. So i shouted at him and told him to get help. He ran back to the yard as if he had understood what i had said and my boss came and found me and phoned an ambilance. I had broken my left hip and wrist, i needed surgary and spent 3 and a half weeks in hospital. I had to have time off work which my boss wasn't happy about. She thought i should be back at work after a few weeks!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway she got so cross that i wasn't back at work she said Jo had to leave and if he wasn't gone in a few days she would have him shot. I found him a new loan home but it was a long way away so i could not check on him. He had been there a few months and the girl had said she was getting on realy well with him. But one day she phoned me and said he had attacked her other horse and was waiting for the vet then she said he was dangourous to ride and had been rearing everytime and he was terrified of traffic. She said he had to be gone in two days or she was going to have him shot. I ended up giving him away to another girl as i was still at my old job so couldn't have him back. I spoke to his new owner once and she said he was the sweetest pony she had ever met and she didn't see why his loaner had said he was difficult. I knew he was lovely and the axcident had just been a freak one if i could have kept him i would have. A few weeks after all this happened i moved jobs (and sadly i could have bought Jo with me if all that had only happened afew weeks later) and in the move i lost his new owners number. I think about him everyday and wonder how he is. I just feel like i let him down i just hope he is ok in his new home and isn't being shoved around from piller to post or worse.
I'll stop now sorry it's a bit of an eppic and i'm sat here in tears. I just wish i knew how he was.

I'm glad people like this idea, i hope it's not made anyone too sad and you are all smiling at previous antics. That's what i do when i think of blackjack now, even though it used to take 2 of us 4 hours every day to get him done because he was such a pain!

I wonder every day about Marcus. He was my dream little fun pony. about 14.1, light chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, which had black running through it. I rode him and looked after him at a riding school for over 3 years and he came with lots of problems but we got over them all. But by the end he was a trully sweet pony. He would be about 12 now i think, maybe a year either side. I think someone from the New Forest bought him, which is a big thing to say he came from Lancashire. They found he had a bad back which would explain a lot of his problems, and i feel guilty that i rode him when he must have been in pain. I loved him so so much and i would have him in a heartbeat if i ever found him again. Everytime i see the name Marcus, i have to check it's nothing do with him lol. He was sold as a Sec D but i really don't think he is. He was a complete sweetie. Broke my heart. I think about him every day.

I know, that story was so sad. I hope someone knows where he is. Do you have any pictures Laura?

I hope everyone is reading everyone elses if they have time, it's a big part of the point of this ;)

Thankyou smartieBean09 Thats not even half the story of my old boss but i won't go into it on an open forum.
All I know is his new owner was called Lou and she ran a Natural Horsmanship place in Suffork I think but i only spoke to her breafly and i never met her as he went streight form his loan home to hers. I had so much else going on at the time and my life was such a mess. Thats why i feel i let him down so much. He was so lovely the nicest kindest cob you could ever meet. I broke him in on my own as i had noone to help me and we used to hack out alone on the road all the time with no problem. Thats why i'm shore the axcident was a freak one he had never even so much as put a foot out of place the whole time io was backing him.

I used to help out with a little dapple gray welshy called Tarna - I was only a little dot - about 6 i think and helped to back her - she was a bit of a terror though!
Often wonder about an ex racer TB called Darcy (think his name before that was Marshall) that i helped with too.
