Those in Somerset what are you charged for DIY livery?

Well, I'm over the border in Devon if that's any help. I offer DIY livery (strictly DIY!!! - I won't touch anyone elses horses unless an emergency; been there & done it).

I charge £15 per week, per horse. They supply all own fodder/bedding. They get mains water in field, electric in yard. 3 acres grazing, fenced off so my horse is separate from theirs but can talk over fence. All year turnout, wintertime its daytime only. Huge looseboxes and own storage area. No sandschool but there's one 5 mins away they can hire. Hacking OK'ish, but could be better. We're convenient to main road junction not stuck right out in sticks.

Im near Bath area and have been at 2 different yards one charged £12 a week for stable and field with mains electricity and water. Had to get own bedding and feed. Also use of school for free and round pen.

Over yard was £15 a week which had individual fields and stable had to buy bedding from them and horses could only live out when weather was good. Had to pay £5 a hr to use the school.

I think what youve been given are pretty low - the average aroung us would be 20ish without school.. 30 with. we are charged 113 pcm (with school) but thats pretty reasonable.. i would say you could get away with about 20-25 per week maybe?
what happened with your liveries! not the two we met??? x

4legged furries, where are you in Somerset?

I'm currently paying £60 per week for DIY livery, no facilities, not much grazing but big stable though a big rough a ready.

I think my setup is pretty basic for what I pay.

BBR - Yup the two you met, the chap we havent had any problems with but the woman has turned into a nightmare. A couple of weeks back she swore at dad in an aggressive manner, dad spoke to her and pulled her up about her behaviour saying it wouldnt be tolerated and she apologised. As far as we were conecerend as she had apologised it was all over and we carried on. Unfortunately she couldnt accept that, stopped talking to us, wouldnt look at us, turned her back on us when we walked on the yard, basically started acting like a 4 year old (even taken to wearing a baseball cap that low over her eyes that she cant even see where she is walking as not to look at us!) and has decided that we were in the wrong and has decided to leave in a huff. We havent asked her to and cant understand why she has carried on like this?! The mind boggles, but she has caused an atmosphere and others have picked up on it. She has also (but I cant prove it, pity otherwise my foot would be up her ass shoving her off the yard) been bitching about us while on the yard to the trainer that we share and also her physio. You know she has because why would you all of a sudden go quiet mid conversation and speak in hushed tones when I walked past?? Pathetic I tell you... She's a grown woman for pitys sake.

Kub - I think you've asked before, I'm about 4 miles from Wincanton, place called Templecombe. I think I was a little too far away from you?

Omg, it's meant to say £60 a month lol!! Just realised I put a week lol, opps!!!

4lf - ah yes I remember, sorry. Tis a shame there's no nice diy livery yards near me with some facilities and within my price range *le sigh*

Yeah hopefully I'll be able to get it in the BMV this week, if I can actually get through to them!! I've also put an ad in Ridemores, so hopefully I'll get something. Thing that really annoys me is that someone called the day after they did wanting 2 spaces but I had to say they had been filled, but do you think I can find her number...?!?! Ooooh no!! Bugger

My mum is right on the somerset border and pays £80/month - for this she has two stables, her own 2.5 acre field and loads of storage. No school or anything fancy, but amazing hacking right on doorstep.

In North Somerset

£100 a month (increasing to £110 in September!)

Stables in american barn, large tack room.
24 hour grazing in summer and turnout in winter, only had to keep them in about twice last winter!
School with lights and excellent hacking.
Local to equestrian centres

haylage and shaving provided my yard but pay extra

3 of my horses are slightly over the border in Dorset and charged £25 per week per horse, but this is not quite DIY as twins are brill and will do one end of the day for you (feed, rugs, turn out/bring in etc).

Twins don't have to advertise as they are always completely full and go by word of mouth, but BVM would be the preferred method!

Jazz is on full livery here at £95 a week :S

I pay £15 a month. I get a stable, all year turnout and storage. However I do not have a school, and the hacking is ok. We do have a rugby pitch and orchard to school and jump in. We also have access to riding around the fields and woodland areas which only the farm liveries have access to.

Working farm, although I love the place and the people I am looking for somewhere else with at least a school. I wouldn't pay more than £25 a week around here though.

Hmm wondering what round trip from Home to Somerset would be ! You guys have it really cheap down there ! Up in Kent is 25 - 35 per week DIY

I've just moved to a yard with amazing hacking, hay and straw included, storage space in locked rooms, school and my own field for my 2 - £125 per month per horse.

Old yard was £25 a week each, stable and field were the only thing provided.

We pay £90 per month for good grazing, stabling, mains water, electricity, good storage space, easy parking for cars/boxes and hacking with no road work. I think the smaller stables are £10 per month less. No school though, and the yard couldn't be described as impeccable (the back doors fell off in spring, and the empty barn has a Tower of Pisa look to it, if you get my meaning!)

I pay £22 per week for DIY. Technically, this includes stable, group turnout (either night OR day in summer, day only in winter, and weather conditions providing, this can be restricted to a couple of days a week max, can turnout in schools when not in use though.) 2 floodlit 20 x 40m schools, (have to fit in around riding school lessons) lunge area and use of xc and sj in fields in summer. Horses are given feed and hay in morning if their in and hay is left outside stable/feed on freezers ready. Hay and straw or shavings can be bought on site.
I say technically as YO started renting 5 acres of fields 1/2 mile up road from yard end of April. Lease terms state 2 horses at a time only, and i have been lucky enough that my horse is 1 of the 2. It has meant that i am allowed 24 hr turnout all summer, complete with 2 field shelters, and winter turnout shouldn't be restricted either.
ALSO, YO poo picks all fields daily!

I pay £25 per week for each of my stables, plus £10 per week for hay for each horse (so £35 per week, per horse). We have a fairly good sandschool, good hacking, my particular stables are lovely, but others on the yard aren't quite so nice. We buy our own bedding (from YO it's £6.50 per bale of shavings) and we buy our own feed from the local feed merchant.

I think our yard is pretty good value.

:)
