A few questions if I may.
How much does it cost per dog per day?
What do you feed and where do you get it from?
What breed of dog/s do you have and what is there livestyle, ie active, working etc?

Thanks

How much it costs - Not sure as i havn't really ever worked it out (Not sure i want to! lol)

I feed everything, and i mean everything! As for where i get it, local butchers or markets.
My butcher knows me well now and he always knows what i want/need.... Some of the stuff is things no-one else would ever want to buy, but he brings it in for me normally.

3 dogs.. lab & 2 BC's. All working dogs. 1 gundog, 2 sheepdogs. They all have VERY active lifestyles...
Aswell as all being working dogs, they all compete in agility and flyball..So are on the move all the time.

Are you considering raw? or do you already feed it?

Thanks. Looking at my options really. I have 2 lurchers, both very active, once of which is a very fussy eater. I'm looking for something she will eat and will keep the weight on her.

Okay...Well, my advice would be, before going out an buying huge amounts of meat.. go to your local supermarket and buy some...hmm... chicken wings, drummers or thighs.

Feed completely raw, straight out of the packet.... if blood and juices are running - even better! hehe

This is a good sample test - You'll find out how your dog likes it etc... =)

Chicken wings are better than legs or thighs, the bones are tougher on the latter.
Landywoods is a good company to buy from and deliver too.
To give you an idea, my lurcher would have 3 or 4 wings for brekkie depending on size. My whippet 2.
Even my 15 year old cat eats them although they need a bash first.

i feed my two whippets mainly raw and are kept fairly fit and i cours/race one of them...have a few good butchers which i get my chicken wings from and they cut the tips off as they can stick in the thoat if the dog hasnt chewed it well
i also get fresh rabbit from a young lad who goes out shooting...he guts, skinned and chops up in portions for me at a £1 a bunny....but some owners to give them whole
breast of lamb is good if you need to put weight on

and plenty of bones and also feed veg/pasta
oh and i give them keepers mix which is an extra condition
And the dogs which are fed on raw will poo less and smell alot less and if you have a dog which tends to eats other dogs poo that will help aswell as nothing is wasted my feeding raw but it doesnt agree with all dogs
Dogs in the wild would eat a varitey of diet including meat/cereals whatever they can get
Its uasally best if you freeze fresh meat then defroze it as this kills any bateria

We feed our two lurchers raw. Dom is approx 16kg and Bes is approx 25kg. Dom does about an hour off lead exercise a day. Bes does about 45 min off lead a day. Our last order cost us £43 for both dogs and that will last about 5/6 weeks.

We started buying bulk from Landywoods 2 months ago (min order £40 plus delivery). The meat comes frozen in 450g/1lb bags. They do a variety of things but so far we have bought the offal mix (economy), chicken with bone, lamb with tripe and the tripe, offal and veg mix. We also buy the meaty bones (lamb ribs) and marrow bones.

We feed either tripe, offal, meat or fish in the mornings with fruit/veg and then meat and bone for dinner. We buy the large tins of pilchards in tomato sauce from the supermarket (cost varies between 45p and 65p a tin). We always buy all they have when we find it cheap! They have two tins a week each.

They also get any leftovers.

Oh i forgot to say we also will occasionally feed rabbit (bought from the local butcher). I cook it though as a treat as they won't eat it raw.

One of ours is a fussy eater and raw food has definitely been a good way to get him to eat and put weight on.

I feed my whippets raw tripe. They are technically pets but they come to the yard with me all day so they spend a lot of time outside being active - ok, snoozing on the hay but they need to keep warm LOL

They currently share one 'block' of raw tripe every evening. Costs 50p per block so that is 25p each per day. However, they also have dried food down 24/7 as well - usually Field and Trial.

I get the raw tripe from my local feed merchants.

I have two Cattle Dogs, below, extremely active. They are really collies on steroids! (my friends neighbour calls them bricks with fur)

Most of the diet comes from the local butcher he supplies lamb ribs and bones plus chicken carcasses and wings for about £5 per month for 2 dogs! This is the large bulk of the diet.

I get other bits a pieces on my travels from the reduced counter. Most supermarkets do chicken wings and Morrison’s do a lamb bone pack (normal people use it for stock) for about 90p. I feed a bit of liver and some tripe from the pet shop, small amounts of liquidised fruit and veg and tinned pilchards in tomato sauce and eggs.

Have never totted it up per day but it must be pence.
