Patience and just don't let him get behind you when mine does this i just drag him back to my side lol he will get there

yes OH walks behind but he is so chilled that you can clap and make a noise ect he doesnt take much notice lol then when i do get him next to me he walks into me so i have to walk with my hand on his neck to keep him from being stuck to me !!!!

I brought my baby as a two year old who was pretty much unhandled. She is now four and an absolute angel. My only advice is repitition, repitition and reward matched with gentleness, firmness and clarity about what you are asking. Keep going at it, reward when they do it right and repeat the same lessons every day. My mare was really easy to break and train and I think it is mainly down to the fact we had established manners and mutual respect on the grounds. good luck - I think bringing on your own is well worth the effort!

yes im looking forward to our long jouney together we have a great friendship already iam firm but fair and also soppy at the same time,he has even learnt to wait for his feed,i put it on the floor and say wait then give him a big pat and he has his tea, learning isnt a prob for him so yes repitition is the key then, thank you for your help everyone

When he gets close enough to step on you push him away a little on his shoulder. It just lets them know how close they can comfortably get.
Saying that when my 3 yo gets a fright he sometimes tries to jump into my arms (think scooby doo!)!!!
