How do you get around? We have no trailer / horsebox and its a complete nightmare getting the chance to compete!! Am considering hiring something but must be quite expensive and I dont think theres much point in paying through your nose for travelling to the odd competition.

I used to share a space in other people's boxes when I was on a larger yard, then my instructor used to take me for a small fee (deisel costs plus one hours wage) then more recently I hire one but it sooooo expensive! I used to compete once a fortnight/month now im lucky to get out once every two months!

Luckily my best friend is at my yard and she has a 4x4 and trailer so we try and do most things together and I tag along with her

My OH is also insured on her 4x4 so can drive me around if required

I'm on a large yard so have been lucky recently & managed to get lifts with other people but in the past I have clubbed together with friends to hire a box but as other people have said it is quite an expensive option.
If I won the lottery one of the first things I would do would be take my trailer test, buy a trailer & a car to tow it with!!

It depends what and if you are driving it yourself. If my dad drives the 4x4 and we hire just the trailer its £45 for the day. If I hire a lorry plus driver its usually about £50 plus £1 per mile. If its a self drive lorry I usually do a weekend hire and its usually £130 for the weekend plus you have to top up the fuel to whatever it was when you collected it.

I have trailer but nothing to connect it to the car (ie towbar)

If you have to hire one it costs the earth, but, if its only a couple of times a year then you would lose more in depreciation than you are spending on hire...... more often and you may as well buy!!

Used to cost me £70 per weekend.

I am lucky in that I can hack to the shows at our local agri college, but that will probably only be 4/5 times a year. I think if I wanted to go to a couple of further afield ones my instructor would take me if she was free.

i can hack to two shows from my yard but i normally get a lift with my friend who has a lorry. her lorry is also insured for anyone over 25 so we are going to hire it for the price of diesel if we want to go out anywhere

For the amount of time i would want to travel it is a viable option!!He is on a right earner!U usually pick the trailer up the night before and take it back either the following eve or 1st thing the morning after that!!If i had the money and space i would be onto a winner, you would not believe the amount of people that wanna hire and not buy due to storage space etc!!!

Rely on friends to offer me lifts! Means I miss out on a lot of things. Luckily there are a few things on site or within hacking distance to keep me amused!

I used to have my own two box and I really miss it now. I have to beg my friend to go to shows with me and her horse so that her Dad can drive the yard lorry which is over 7.5 t so I can't drive it, it also cost a small fortune to hire. Work sometimes lend us the two box at 40p a mile which isn't bad but we cannot rely on being able to get it regularly. They also offer the trucks to tow but as I passed my test after that date I cannot tow. So at the moment I am stuck at home which isn't good for a youngster. We only have endurance within a hacking distance. I am joining the local Riding Club and hope to find someone there to share a lift with if possible, otherwise I'm screwed for the season.

I hire from a guy who does horse transporting as his job. I get him for the day for transport and pay a reasonable amount. Have been using him for 2 years. Very reliable and professional
