Could you please tell me more about the structure of the whole grading (for mares)? What do they have to do? I school a 4 year old Ferro mare whose owner is interested in having her graded with KWPN but we don't know much about it!

Thank you!

Hello,
Gradings for mares and youngstock in the UK are held at the end of July/start of August each year, this year they had one in Somerset, Lancashire and Warwickshire.
They are now divided into dressage and jumping sections, i am guessing you would be going for the dressage section? There is a section for 4 to 7 year old mares for studbook entry. You do have to be a member of the kwpn to enter though, you can do this through their website, they send forms for the grading nearer the time when you are a member although you can request them earlier or ask questions about the structure of the gradings as they always email you back, but it can take a few days. Website is kwpn.nl, they have an english version.
They will mark her conformation initially, you will also have to walk and trot her out in hand on a hard surface, she will then be taken to the indoor arena and let loose, they mark her movement for dressage (balance/impulsion etc). They don't have to jump for the dressage section now. They give a short evaluation on what they liked or could have been better about the mare, when all the mares have been seen you bring them in to the ring, they then give you the overall evaluation of your mare, and hopefully you recieve a stud book entry (50 or more in conformation and movement), ster (70 conformation and 75 for movement), prelim keur or keur for mares that already have a ster/ prelim keur that complete the IBOP test with at least 75 points or have a proven competition record (at level Z? think its adv med but not completely sure).
You have to wear all white, horse just bridle, with white lead rope, no boots but can wear tendon boots for the loose jumping (jumpers) section or loose movement (dressage).
er think thats it???

I took my 3 year old ferro mare this year and she got a ster! was very pleased with her! How is the mare bred on the dam side? Is she reg in the foalbook with the kwpn?

Ups, only just seen your reply! Thank you for the info!
The mare's dam is by Ferro and sire by G.Ramiro Z and yes she is registered with KWPN.
She would be most likely graded as a jumper as that is her forte. She moves well as such, has lovely uphill canter, ground covering walk and trot with quite a suspension but she dishes. How much do you think this would influence her points?

not sure really, they have got sections on the evaluation sheet about movement/conformation traits, they are marked between a and i, a to c and g to i being obvious traits, d to f being average so you generally want to be in this section, eg, (body shape) a to c rectangular- g to i square. i have seen mares who dish that have got into the stud book in the past and she sounds lovely so i'm sure you will do very well
