how do you stop them rubbing underneath bottom lip? like the chin so must be caused by the actual bucket part, i have fleece lined the headstraps to stop it rubbing there but discovered a scab on his chin and there isnt anywhere to really attach fleece as ive done before? it is the largest size that will still fit, and he has to have it on 24 7 (with break when he gets ridde/brought it) as otherwise he just gorges so doesnt help with his weight.......any ideas?
 
I think it's a bit like hoof boots... you end up getting rubbed somewhere :rolleyes:

Just because its the largest size does not mean its right. Try the best friend muzzles, they come in much bigger sizes and suit my big headed cob, safety detachment and also very good quality. My guys muzzle is about 2 sizes to big and has worn it for 3 years with no rubs at all. By the way the shires largest size was too small for him. I tried the dinky, they wear really quick, buy once and buy right, save money in the end and horse will be (happy);)

We have a pony with a greenguard muzzle on 24/7 with fake fur nose and cover on the nose band only with no rubs or sore patches. He has a couple of spare nose band covers which were less than £2 each from Robinsons.
His chin hasn't been rubbed at all.
 
My cob alternates between a greenguard through the day to keep his nose free in the warmer weather and then goes into his Best friend muzzle at night...when he wore his bucket muzzle 24/7 last year i just slapped on a combination of vaseline and sudocream on the bits that started to rub, mainly the edge of his nostrils where he pushed the muzzle round to get the grass in:o
 
did similar
sewed a double pad of fibregee/gamgee (can never remember which is which) the felty one you use under leg bandages
on top half of underneath
(not all way down as would get wet when drinking)
my cob used to rub himself raw
but so far this has worked
 
If it has a D ring attachment for a lead rope to attach then I cut that off, it makes a difference; then stick some duct tape over the inside of the back of the muzzle where it is rubbing.
