Out of interest how much do you pay per week? How many days is that for? Does the owner just leave you to it on your days? Are they flexible? Anything else you think is important for the owner to be/do?

Thanks in advance :)

I was paying (at uni so can't anymore) £10 a week plus half of shoeing (fronts only every 8 weeks.)

I had 3 days originally, but it became more and more as she was very busy.

I was left to it totally, I was shown her routine and directed towards another livery who knew the horses for quick advice if I needed it.

They were very flexible, and totally fine with changing days, or me having 4 days one week 2 the next if needs be. I was flexible too so if she needed a hand I could.

Anything else?
TRUST! Please show a sharer you trust them, it may take a few months but once you know your horse is in safe hands (even if they do some thins in a slightly different way to you) let your sharer know you trust them. It instils confidence in both parties and allows you to discuss things in a better manner if problems come up.

Also make sure you talk to one another regularly, and mention if you like how they do something or thank them for doing something more than they normally do.

I had an old share where she was constantly picking holes in everything I did without mentioning anything positive, I felt I wasn't really welcome and she couldn't trust me. My more recent share pointed out stuff she would prefer me to do differently but also managed to keep me feeling I was valued in what I did and she was happy for me to be around her horse :) It makes all the difference and I am far more happy to do extra stuff around the yard knowing it is appreciated!

Im an owner and have two people help me with mine.
I dont ask either of them for a penny, as they are doing me a massive favour!
One lady does every morning Monday to Friday and the other does one day at the weekend, usually Sat mornings.
They are both brilliant and we are very close. One lady has been with me over a year and I trust her totally and we can talk to each other, which I think is REALLY important. You have to be comfortable with each other and be able to discuss things and any issues either of you have.
I leave them totally to it when they do the horses and let them make decisions.
