Those of you who use straw???

How many small bales of straw will it take to put a bed down in an empty 12x12 stable?

And then how many bales do you get through in a week?

cant remember how many i first used but im using 3 a week

I think it's 3 bales to start a stable that size.

Then work on adding another bale every 2-3 days, depending on how messy they are/if they eat any of it. That's based on a full muckout every day clearing out 2 barrowloads max.

i like to put 5 or 6 in.this may sound a lot but in the long run it keeps sweeter longer.prob 1 or 2 to top up a week depending on horse`s habits.
i like it to cover the prongs

when i used straw used 8 to start then 2 a week was a big bed with big banks though

were only allowed to put straw down in the back ov our stable,so that only half stable is covered,it mostly gets emptied every day depending how manky yours is ,i have 2 geldings, 1 is not bad and the other is well........,weve got square bales ov straw and i use bout 3 leafs a day [for the minger] ave always used shavings but am getting used to straw now ,ul end up finding your own method and how much , a dont think ad go back to shavings.

Thanks eveyone - have straw from big bales incoluded in my livery at the mo but am moving to a yard where I have to buy small bales, so just trying to work out how much I'm going to need.

They're charging £1.50, which I think is about standard?

I would start wiith 3-4 to make a nice bed. I use 2 a week, my horse is clean though
