Hi All,

Am considering buying a Leyland Daf 45 lorry, F reg. Its been well maintained throughout but would appreciate your views - good / bad / likes / dislikes etc.

Choccy biscuits for all that reply LOL!

Thank you :)

Love mine! I have a leyland daf 45 on a L. Had 5 years of no hassle at all. Had to have the diesel tank replaced which is common on these and wear and tear items like the batteries but thats it.

Another happy daf owner. Mines an M reg, sailed through its test again in june, I go all over the country eventing with it, no problem. Agree about the fuel tank though....

They are lovely trucks. Assembled in the U.K. Parts are easily available and well priced.
Always get a commercial truck mechanic that specialises in horseboxes to check your potential vehicle over and also get the floor and ramp thoroughly checked.
(Aluminium floors are not guaranteed against problems as they can also rot).
Make sure you buy one that has a fully tiltable cab as they are far easier to service especially if a major component fails.
Also get weight checked on a weigh bridge to ensure that you have enough payload for the horses, passengers etc.

We have one, H reg, bought it from local mechanic, loads of payload, as only have small day living, very easy to drive and apart from some initial small problems fine mechanically. Do get an isolator switch fitted if you're going to leave it standing as that cuts out a nuisance.

Have a 150BHP one, which is tremendous - starts literally on the button, amazing turning circle, great fun to drive.....

I suspect the lower powered varieties might struggle with big hills a bit.

Overall, they have an excellent rep as workmanlike wagons.

I had an L reg Daf 45 for 9 years, a really reliable lorry, always started better than my car. Unfortunately the cab rusted away and it had to go to the garage in the sky, I've replaced it with another Daf though, I am a fan
