those of you with mares

The last 2 times my mare has been in season she comes in with colic like symptons for one day. She has been in season a few days and last night came in being very quiet, looking very tired, wasnt interested in her hay or food (which is very unlike her!!) and just stood at the back of her box (again very unusual) It seems strange that she has done this twice now and both being when she was in season. Does anyone know why she might be doing this ?

mine is always a little quiet when in season - i suppose they are like women -we get period pains - so must they - some ladies get worse than others and some horses must too - mine is always tender over her quarters when in season so i groom lightly there or i get an evil look or swished by a tail.

Mine can be a little like that too, very sensitive looking for hugs, then the next day(s) a grumpy so and so! She does get sore in her back and it does upset her tummy a bit - tbh I don't see that its so much different to what we get too.
