Those of you with multiple saddles....

Do you have a set of stirrups and leathers for each saddle? Or do you have one set and swap between saddles?

The reason I ask is because I have recently invested in a set of very expensive suspension flexible stirrups because when I get back to riding after my knee injury, im going to need stirrups that will be kind to my knee (after nearly four minths the docs are still talking possible surgery!)

I can't see me wanting to spend in excess of £100 for a pair of stirrups for every saddle I have (two horses, will both have two saddles each in the long term) so was thinking that as long as I buy the best I can, stirrup and leather wise, then I could switch these between my saddles.....

Do you do is? Or is it going to be a right pain? I've always had a pair of stirrups for each saddle in the past, because I only had one horse in work, but four sets of expensive stirrups and leathers seems excessive!

Yes i've done that between my gp and dressage saddle, its doesnt take long to whip off the whole leather and stirrup and swap it over. Id just keep an eye on your leathers for any wear and tear if you are using them alot :)

nope, much too time consuming. Are the cheaper bendy ones not suitable? If you did think of investing in several sets of the sprengers you could probably sell them on at very little loss when your knee is better.

That's just it, this will likely be a lifelong disability even if very slight...I damaged my other knee to a fraction of the extent that this one is damaged and it still plays me up 10 years on.

I have some of the cheaper bench ones, but have been advised to go for the best....which is fine.

I could buy multiple sets, it just seems a bit wasteful!

It depends how often your using each saddle!

We have a set of stirrups and leathers for each saddle - it's so much easier if you have a quick turnaround or you're riding multiple horses with only one set as i found out - tbh, i'd rather spend the money and have a set per saddle than switch... mainly because i'm not very good at putting them on ;)

i've got 3 sets of sprengers. when i have more than 3 saddles being used, i swap leathers onto the next saddle, but i prefer to keep them separate as i have a fairly set length per saddle, horse and discipline (e.g. it's annoying to have to fiddle with jump-length stirrups onto a dr saddle and remember what length i have them for that saddle etc)
ebay is your friend... or, someone going over to Germany and getting you a few pairs. my first two pairs of Sprengers cost £40 each, my trainer brought them back for me. I'm not sure whether there's still such a huge difference in price though.
hope your knee continues to improve. mine didn't stabilise though, i had to have the op and now it's really good. good luck with yours.

The knee replacement op is off the cards, but I've been referred to a cartilage specialist to look at doing a cartilage implant op.

I think I'm probably going to end up with a set per saddle, don't need to buy them all at once though...baby horse only has one saddle and snip is still in year off mode so will probably not ride him this year...my knee wont be stable enough to sit his antics for a while!

I guess I can just buy a pair every couple of months or something.

Thanks for the input everyone, more shopping it is then! Lol

Wow, I never knew there was that much difference... What about the weight of them when flying?
