Those soft wickering sounds

This may sound daft but can a horse make these noises if in pain? I brought my pony in this morning at 9am as it's going to be a hot day and he was sweating between his front legs and around the ears. Within half an hour he 'humped' with his back legs twice (only way I can describe it Lol) and wouldn't stop wickering at me, particularly when I was stroking him. He then laid down but didn't roll and got up again and just wouldn't stop wickering. He did a poo which was looser than normal and then laid down again for a few minutes. I have left him for now as he seems happy just dozing but this is completely out of character. Any ideas? (Hopefully not too rude

)

Phone the vet he sounds uncomfortable ,has he had colic before they lay down with colic .Sorry to panic you but check him regularly .

definitely sounds like he is unhappy about something, I would get the vet, the sweating and laying down could indicate colic

I thought of colic but then he did a poo so I wasn't quite so concerned and there are tummy rumblings and lots of gas (as usual). He's never had colic before but I will go back in a minute and keep my eye on him. Thankyou.

My horse seemed uncomfortable once and was pooing and his guts were rumbling. He can be colicky so called out the vet. It's better to be safe than sorry imo. It was colic which was treated. If the gut is very noisy it's as bad as no noise at all....apparently! Call the vet.

My horse had colic about a month ago and when I arrived he was winnying like mad. Normally he just does one when he sees me and that's it, but he wouldnt shut up. He pooed and his tummy was VERY rumbly. Vet came out straight away and said he had colic and gave him medicine, he was better the next day but from what you've said it DEF sounds like colic!

As an addition to above points.. are you sure he's not just a bit randy?! It is that time of year after all

They can poo for up to 24 hrs after an impaction, depending on where the impaction is.

I'd get the vet, the last thing you want is an emergency call out at 11pm tonight!

Vet has been and did various tests and an internal and found nothing wrong. He has stopped the wickering now and is more himself. I'm keeping him in tonight to monitor but hopefully he is fine. I feel I've wasted the vets time but at least my mind is at rest for now. Thanks for everyones advice.

I'm glad that he is ok. I would always call the vet if I suspected colic so I think you defnitely did the right thing.

I think you did the best thing as you can never be too sure and the main thing is that you acted on your impulses when your horse did something out of character ... you did not waste your Vet's time at all ..... I hope your horse is ok
