I have a driving pony in that is being schooled. Now, I am teaching it to get used to leg and bending etc, and instead of the walk as fast as possible all the time pace, we are getting nearer to a proper walk. The trot is improving and is better when he thinks about where to put his feet!

What movements are you required to do in a driving trials thingy? I know basic movements, and we are starting to teach him rein-back.

What else is required?

Most tests are all in walk and trot except, I think, advanced singles. Within the trot you need to be able to change between working, collected and extended. In the halt you have to stand immobile for 10 seconds. The tests I've done have included circles, serpentines, deviations, various straight lines across from one letter to another. You've also had to do sections of the test with one hand. There are probably easier novice tests to start with though.

You also need to get correct bend and straightness, your horse needs to track up, work from the quarters be balanced and forward going with impulsion.

There are also 5m deviations I forget the correct term. in otherwords instead of going straight up the track from one letter to the next you may be asked to come 5m out from the track at the start of a marker then return to the track by the next marker.

Usually the only section that you drive one handed (reins in left hand and right hand holding whip should be held out to show that you are not using two hands) is when driving the 20m cirlces. Further one handed movemnets are required depending what class you are in.

PN is working trot, lengthened strides walk and rein back of a few strides
N is as above with extended trot, longer rein back
Intermediate is same, with collected and basic one handed collected circles even longer rein back
FEI is harder one handed moves, sharper transitions, about 3m rein back and in some tests canter.

All the same really. For the marathon a ground covering walk will probably need to be practised.
