I keep tiny sweepings from the hay barn in old feed buckets & when it gets a bit milder & the fuzzies are moved off into another paddock I then go out & scatter seed in the worst patches. Usually looking fine by Maytime (depending on sun/warm/rain)
Ours is about 1 1/2 acres. 2 horse & 1 pony out 24/7 and 2 more horse out with them during the day. Never have had to reseed in the past 8 years but I've never seen it as bad as it is this year (it's basically rained since Sept) so time will tell. We will harrow and roll when they come off it, if it's not recovering we will seed.
As above also. Mine gets seriously trashed to the point when people see it they just stare at it! I harrow it a good few times and do seed the gateways but it always recovers! At the moment with this freezing weather it's setting really rutted so had to turnout at lunchtime today on e it had softened! Was tempted to chuck them out in the nice level summer paddock this am as theyre werent impressed at not going iut first thing but thought better of it!! We've got clay soil so really struggle to keep paddocks in wet weather looking like cricket lawns!!
We don't have a trash paddock, but have a trash path from the big field to the stables, one uses the fence line every time and gets mud up to his knees, the big ginger thing makes a new path every time trying to avoid the mud and just increases the muddy path, we had the discovery in the field trying to flatten the ruts down, no joy because of the underground springs, we stand no chance of improving the drainage, at the moment it is a nightmare, the horses don't want to come in through the mud, because the ground is frozen, the ruts are making the TB's heels bleed, I should have stuck to cats I think
