...inspired by the "how long does it take you" thread...I just realised that one thing that slows me down, and yes, let's be honest, irritates the bejesus out of me...

...is people TALKING to you while you're clipping? Are my clippers extra noisy or is it impossible to hear them? I hate rudeness so feel obliged to turn them off each time, and say "sorry?" and then have to reply to the same "oh isn't he good!"/"ooh look at his colour!"/"ooh he looks like a different horse!"/"ooh do you want to do mine?" and (my personal fav) "ooh, you're clipping!"

Anyone else get this and if so how do you cope? Must say I got to the stage of just carrying on. But I do feel rude!!!!:o:)

I must say i get this quite abit at my yard and although i am only at a small yard everyone feeds and does stuff with their horses at diffrent times so do get people talking to me while im cliipin yea, but i just seam to sorta carry on clippin cuz i must admit my clippers are kinda nposey and i do feel rude but i just tend 2 not hear people when they talk 2 me but if i do i will turn the clippers off but it is very annoyin at the same time especially if your doin a face, leg or mane line n tryin 2 concentrate.

Freshman that is actually a really good idea, also will perhaps actually listen to ipod (well not got one but phone will do!) as I like to get "in the zone" when I'm clipping, I do actually enjoy it!

Yup totally agree, i started on teds legs, and got all sorts of things, like "ohhh he looks better!" "oh he has small feet!" etc etc.
In the end I go fed up cause it was taking ages, so now it really looks like hes just been really hacked at!! :s

Yeh I was clipping on Saturday - fortunately I clipped first thing and as the horses are still out a lot of people aren't getting to the yard until 11 or so, so I missed most people. I did have one or two of the 'ooh you're clipping' remarks though.

I clipped George on Sunday, and I picked a time when it would be quiet, but more because it was only the 2nd time in my life that I'd clipped a horse and knew it would take me ages! Thankfully George is a saint and seems to like it, and the 2 people who I did see just asked if I needed help (they know I'm new to clipping), and I got them to hold his legs up so I could do his 'armpits' :) and hold his head whilst I finished round his ears. So thankfully no annoying comments!

Haha this thread made me giggle, yes people do come up to me when im clipping and make the comment, oooh your clipping. Ive got to the stage now ijust say, i cant hear you when the clippers are on and just carry on, they usually stand there for a minute and wonder off. People tend to just leave me alone now as they know they wont get a reaction. Its not that im being rude but i hate clipping and just want to get it done, espeacialy as its getting colder i dont want the horse standing there getting cold. And as i do other peoples at the yard and i do it on my day off i usually have a whole line of horses to get through so just want to get my head down and finished. :)

Strangest thing I had when clipping the other day was someone not talking, just watching me o.o I thought it was my mum at first (but wondered why she hadn't come back to hold dan for me) and then realised it was another livery, carried on a bit then stopped to let the clippers cool and to talk to her because it was so odd I couldn't ignore! She disappeared not long after though.
Usually people don't talk to me when I'm clipping, we're all too busy!
