those who feed supplements

Do you feed them in chaff or a mash of cubes/beet?

I can never get my boy to eat supplements in a short chop but I want to try and switch him to Winergy! And he has quite a few supplements...

A scoop of chaff, a measure of nuts or mix (depending on horse), a measure of sloppy sugar beet (about a pint) and supplement. All mixes up to a damp tasty mix and no probs with choke (I had this with one horse on dry feed).

Mine are mixed into dampened chaff and I've never had a problem with them eating them - none of them are exactly fussy though!

Is there a particular one that your horse doesn't like or is it all of them? If just the one you could try changing to a different one that does the same thing? I also know people who've had success adding mint to feeds to mask the taste of medicine or supplements. Could be worth a try before you change your whole feed. (Unless you were planning on switching anyway in which case ignore me!)

My girl gets all her supplements mixed in with happy hoof(chaff) and high fibre nuts
she gets cod liver oil, cider vinegar, garlic, magnesium,glucosamine and eats it happily all mixed up well with plenty of water

he is on benevit, bute-x, glucosamine/msm, global herbs acid-x (which i may be able to eliminate by feeding winergy), can you tell he has joints problems?!

I find that when I need to feed supplements, horses eat them much better when mixed into soaked beet or soaked cubes, rather than chaff type feeds.

My mare has a scoop of herbal chaff, a scoop of pony nut, cider vinegar, sunflower oil, garlic, devils claw, premierflex and a few carrots mixed with 3/4 of a scoop sugarbeet and eats it quiet happily!

My 30 year old 'Special Needs' has been having respiratory issues in the last few weeks and lets just say he has a 'number' of supplements several of which have a strong odour. They have all mixed in to a base of speedi beet very well with a scoop of Healthy Hooves Mix - found this has a more appetising smell than his usual Happy Hoof. Have also added some mint. Quite pleased with this as 3 of the supplements are Indian herb based and smell quite strong. He has in the past been a bit sniffy about these but is quite happy to eat the current offering. In fact he stands outside the feedroom door . Have found the speedi beet useful with the powder based supplements as it stops them 'floating' away.
