Those with close contact saddles

How much wither clearance do you have mounted and unmounted? There seems to be a huge variation when you search on this from 'so long as it does clear the withers' to 4 fingers. I know this isn't the only aspect of saddle fitting - I'm just being curious!

without a numnah on I get about 2 or 3 fingers in under the pommel when mounted. its nearer 4 before I get on.
