All you lucky people out there who are able to take your dogs to work what do you do for a job? And where do you keep them at work?
All those who are unable to do so what do you do about your dogs while you work?
Thanks in advance

Mine live outside in runs when I am at work and they do just fine :) that's the way my mother kept mine before me. If she is at home she will walk the older dog and let my pup (well, he is a year old now :p) out for a run or bring him into the house for company.

I work as a vet nurse, but having 4 dogs and working at a small practice I only take them to work with me if 1 needs treatment. During the day while at work they are outside in the dog pound.

When i adopted my 2 a few years ago i worked 9-5 locally, they'd stay indoors and i'd pop home during my lunch hour to take them out for a quick wander. I'm home more now and they tend to sleep most of the day.

I don't actually have to take mine into work (as OH is home) but it's convenient and for my safety as some of my shifts are (alone) day shift are not allowed to bring their dogs in (it would take up all the kennels needed for inpatients) where as mine can doss around the building with me:), they generally lie in reception when I am busy then by my feet on break time. If need be I can always stick them out in my van in the morning, but I leave really early anyway and the day staff (esp the boss) love my rotti and like to cuddle and fuss her:rolleyes:

Ps, sorry (vets also)

Mine comes to work and trundles around the greenhouses first thing and then goes to bed in his crate. Has walks during the day at my breaktimes and is generally fussed up by my work colleagues.
I was concerned about the heat in the summer but he appears to cope with it quite well. Always has access to water and a shady spot.
I am lucky I can take him with me as I am the boss :)
I don't think I would of got another pup if I couldn't of done the above.

The only thing is that when I insured him I couldn't get third party liability as I take him to work .He's covered outside of work though.

Mine stays at home, he gets at least 2 hours at the yard with me every morning then spends the day snoring his head off until I get back from work 8 hours later (including commute) when he gets another run.

Work in an office and pup comes to work. Have a crate rarely used. Mostly he just sleeps or plays and gets cuddled from everyone else. Walks before after and lunchtime.

thanks guys. Splash of joy how did you go about asking your boss about pup going to work with you?
Broke but happy how old is your dog and do you find he/she is hyper in the evenings when your back home?

Asking really as my circumstances have changed i graduated last year from uni and i was shift working until now but i have been asked to work FT as a physio which is my degree and as the situation is so shockingly bad for jobs atm i cant really pass the opportunity up. Obv as i am in hosp cant take dog but OH is an engineer and is currently working in a building with only 3 other blokes so quite private he is thinking of taking dog in to work with him 2-3 times a week and then my mum will do visiting the other days. I am going to try and get to work a half day or 2 if possible but as i said not really an opportunity i can miss. We are thinking of maybe getting another dog as that could keep current one company although he does seem to be sleeping when ever anyone visits and has kongs etc in the day and is chilled at night.

We try and get our dogs out and about much as poss, they come to the yard and i walk there and back so they seem happy with that. Sister is still at school, so they are usually left from 8.30pm to 3.30pm but they are small and fit easily through our cat flap if they ever want to get out in the day for a wee or fresh air :D

At weekends i try to take her somewhere different or just to the pub with me etc

I work part of the week away from home in another state (2-3 days) and part of the week at home. Of course mine are with me when I'm working at home. When I'm away and OH is also at work, my three are alone all day. They have access 24-7 to the garden though (3/4 acre fenced) and free run of the house. Whether I'm there or not they get one walk a day, for less time when OH is walking them than when I take them out. They are older dogs now and their current lifestyle seems to suit them really well. I certainly can't tell when I get home from traveling that they've been alone all day and walked less.

I have a really nice boss :) but just asked. Boss said yes provided it didnt pee on the floor, attack anyone or was too noisy. So far so good 10 months in. To be fair one of the partners had a dog she brought to the office till it died a few years ago so a bit of a precedent.

Well mine has the run of the house but is also litter trained. I only work 10 mins away from home but its the worst road ever. Sometimes it can take 1 hour to get home. She rarely uses her tray but its always there for emergencies.

Well, I work 9 to 5, 5 days a week. I bought my own house just over a year ago but before that our family have always had dogs and it just seems wrong to have a house without a dog in! I have 'threatened' to get a dog but obviously it would not be fair to leave a dog all day alone. Also I didn't have the finances.

However, in Sept I got a promotion and a fair bit more money so i thought I could more than afford a dog and considered a dog sitter/dog walker but was hoping my parents would be able to look after her (I know they're a soft touch really even though they said no initially!)

Anyway, so I now drop the dog off each day at my parent's and pick her up after work. They have two dogs, the oldest is 15 this year, the younger one 7. They get on really well with mine and in some ways (not to sound morbid) but it'll be nice for the younger one to have a doggy friend when our oldie goes. Thankfully my dog has provedto be pretty well behaved and loyal so is no problem for them to have.

in an ideal world I'd love to have a job that allowed me to have my dog with me but those jobs are few and far between.

Ladyt that is our ideal unfortunately at present my parents dog is unwell-results on Monday. So he can't go there yet as she can't play at mo.
In a morbid way also it will be good for my parents to have a dog around when there's goes. Just feel bad putting on them 5days a week. They too are soft touches and i like you hated not having a dog around. But my dad has always said we shouldn't have had one because of leaving it...true but its not always so simple!x

Mine come to work with me and I work for myself, so can't help with your dilemma but, can I just say, if you're not sure how things are going to work out, don't get another dog to keep the first one company. It MIGHT work that way, or you might end up with a dog with its own set of issues, especially as you can't really get a puppy right now. It also limits who you can leave the dog with - foisting one on someone is cheeky, two is an imposition! And if you do end up having to get a walker or putting them in daycare, even just once and awhile, it obviously doubles the cost.

Our older dog is one of those I could leave with anyone (maybe not to walk off lead but certainly to have in the house) and we had friends offer to take him for free. The second dog, while I love her dearly, is much less confident and we have to be much more careful about who we leave her with - we're pretty much limited to a professional. So, yes, she keeps the older dog company, provides an on call playmate, and in the context of their lives, is a great addition. She MIGHT make it slightly easier when they're left, although he was okay before we got her, too. But she certainly hasn't made it easier when I do have to leave them for more than a standard period of time.

My job is a mix of IT, HR and anything else they can think of  My partner works from home but 2-3 times a week Purdey comes to work with me. She absolutely loves it and just chills in her basket or plays with her toys. We also have a Spinone that comes in who belongs to my boss - when he shakes we have slobber up the walls :D (the dog that is, not my boss). The office is on the Downs Link so great walks at lunchtime.

My colleagues knew I was adopting a dog but I did ask them if they minded if I brought her in because I thought it only fair. I have my own office with big patio doors so she can watch the world (and the squirrels) go by. I started off with half a day at first so she got the idea but she loves it. She would be perfectly happy to go in everyday but my partner also likes to have her so we have to share :)

I am a groom and Betsy comes to work with me mon - fri (if OH is working, he sulks if he is without his precious dog when he is off!)
We have kennels on site and she shares with my managers pooches. She is fussed, played with and walked all day and loves it :)
