Do you all get your blades sharpened or just buy a new set?

Also what blades do you all clip with? Standard, Coarse or Fine?

I have a Connie X and her hair grows back quickly so I'm tempted to go with fine but don't want to scalp her!

I sharpen them and I have 3 sets I actually prefer the old style ones over the new type, it varies how many clips I get out of each set, they do wear out like all blades but they last a good while mine are standard.

There are some cheap copies of heiniger blades I wouldn't entertain those the proper ones are far superior.

Crikey, don’t check away blunt blades, that‘s what sharpening services are for. Decent blades like Heinigers can be sharpened many, many times.

Fine blades leave the horse bald. Personally I use coarse blades which leave the horse much more comfortable, but not scalped.
Agree about fine blades I did my Arab's with them once and they looked weird 😆

My poor mostly white coloured mare looked like a plucked chicken when I accidentally clipped her with some 1.0mm fine blades that I didn’t know I had 🤣. The vet saw her not long after and roared with laughter. It was a late clip, too, so it took months to grow out 🤣.

Yes, medium blades and I get them sharpened. I bought my clippers with 2 sets of blades, but didn't realise one set was fine. My mainly white coloured did not look good after I'd used them! I bought an extra set of medium, just in case one set goes blunt mid clip

Mine have been sharpened a lot, I clip every 2 weeks all year round. Fine and medium blades, yet to have a set that have given up on me.

I have Heineger Xplorers with medium blades and I feel they leave too much coat on. I'm definitely going to invest in some fine blades for mine.

I get my blades sharpened once a year (they then do about 10 clips before sharpening again, although have gone longer)
I tend to use medium blades on the cob whilst she's in proper winter Woolies, but do use fine on her too.
The tb always gets done with fine blades, I don't find its that close a clip compared to others I've seen.
Love my heinegers, wouldn't use anything else.

I have three sets of blades and two sets on clippers ... replaced my H. Delta clippers (with wire - excellent clippers) with a set of Xplores last year (battery - also excellent). I have a very hairy highland and a not quite so hairy Irish cob type and get my blades sharpened after I've done a full clip with them. They have now been sharpened several times and are still going strong.
