What the frig do you use saddlewise?!?!?


Got a friends in to re-break/ride on and even our trusty collections of XW flat show saddles aren't up to the challenge! All are just going straight forwards and over the withers after a few minutes trotting. Varying seat sizes, varying makes.

Said Highland is round which isn't helping much.

I've given up and doing it bloody bareback lol.
 
:D I don't have a Highland but a very wide Fell and was practically bald from the amount of hair pulling that went on trying to find a decent fitting saddle, the Ideal H&C xxxw is the only one that fit really well for mine; good luck!
 
i've got an old GFS saddle and 9 times out of 10 it is fine, but if pony decides she wants to go bunny hopping, it goes forward on to her neck.

I've heard saddle company saddles are good for them
 
She's not here for long which is sort of the awkward part...I love the H&C saddles, did used to have an xxw one for an old heavyweight which is more annoying thing lol!!!


She's fine with the tack on....so just bareback I guess it will be unless I invest in a crupper for a couple of weeks lol.

On a wide flat horses anything that is slightly cantle low is highly likely to move forwards, espeically without a point strap. If you can find the best saddle for width and use a rear rise to level it (with a rider up) then you may have a solution. I fit many wide and flat horses and find that many brands of show saddle just have too thin a rear panel, so even if the saddle is right at the front, it is too low behind and can cause these issues.
 
Fergs has a wide Ideal VSD, 17", and a MW Albion dressage, 17.5". He's pretty easy to fit to, tbh :o
