I'm trying to find a gp/jump saddle for someone, preferably secoundhand. She's got long legs and a small backside. So seat needs to be 17.5 but most saddles seem to be too wide for her and she floats about!

Its for an id/connemara. The Barnsby saddles are great for her but don't go near the horse.
Does anyone have any suggestions of brand and model?

Does it have to be 17.5 inch? That would be too big for me and I would float about in it too. I have 2 saddles, one is a 17" and the other is 16.5" which accomodate my small bum very well (I also have longish legs). The make of 17" is a Saddle Company, but cant remember on the 16.5" one (its very old so probably not made now anyway)

Will have to find somewhere with saddle company saddles to try sitting on. Thought we needed a 17.5 to be able to fit legs but will try a 17. It seems to be the width of the seat causing the problem. Thanks very much

I have a 16.5" and it's fantastic - by Morris & Nolan. Lovely saddle, very comfy and fits horse brilliantly

Nicely cut cantle for jumping and knee rolls are well placed. I have short legs and often find that knee rolls are so flat/far forward that my knees don't actually reach it!

I have long legs and a small behind and I definately need a 17,5" anything smaller and my knees are off the front of the saddle or my bum is on the cantle.
I currently have a (ducks to avoid the flying objects.. ) Wintec Pro jumping saddle (similar to the Bates) and was shocked and amazed at how comfy it is , flat seat, forward cut, had Albions and Stubbens in the past

I think it varies according to the make of saddle, I rode on on 17" ideal show saddle and that murdered me. It just didnt seem to accomodate my legs right no matter what length I rode. So I do think its a case of trying different makes and sizes. Its so difficult to find something that fits both you and the horse!

i have an arab x id he is quite a chunky and short coulped i ride him in a 17.5" albion gp i have a tiny bum and long skinny legs and the saddle is perfect for both of us!

Try a Stuuben! They tend to fit pretty much anything and anyone! My bum's pretty small!!!! I have 3 Stubbens, ones a jumping saddle 17" fits me at 8st and reg/short legs, fits my hubby at 13st and long legs! I used to think that Stubbens were too heavy and hard on a horses back but am now a complete convert!! I havent had a horse with a bad back and they are great for stablity in the saddle, especially when jumping or riding a spooky horse!! They also last for donkeys years!

Gosh I don't know how you manage to ride in a Stuuben, they are like sitting on an old park bench!!!!!!!!!

My saddles are all 17 inch, if the saddles is too big for the rider, they will tend to slide back in it to get their butts in the right place, this will make the saddle feel much wider between the thighs.

A correctly fitted saddle should fit both the horse and the rider, one of the most difficult things to achieve.

I ride in prestige saddles

OH is 6ft and extremely narrow (he can't get mens breeches small enough) and really loves Kieffer saddles - bonus is they are completely adjustable numerous times to fit any horse
