Have you taken their sweet itch rugs off yet? I have a little loan pony he suffers with terrible sweet itch just wondering when he can maybe go naked. He will be stabled at night soon so i would like him to be without rugs as he is a native. What do you do with yours?

Halloween is usually my marker :) though I suspect we could go naked now - but only as she is on global herbs Skratch plus (fed in marmite sandwich) which has made a massive difference :)

Just an aside my pony with mild sweet itch has improved a lot with brewers yeast. I ran out a while back and for the first time in two years of being fed it she has rubbed her mane.
Also have a look at this, might be worth a go if you haven't tried it. http://www.sweetrelief.co.uk/

I agree with Amandap about brewers yeast. I have only started feeding it to my boy this year but have noticed a massive improvement in his scratching (or lack of it). He has still worn his rug every evening but he has gone all summer during the day naked! This has been a first in 15 years of owning him. Usually October is a nightmare for my lad, so he still gets a rug on him at night - unless it's blowing a gale which keeps the little blighters at bay!!

Thanks, he is on yeast and I think it would be a lot worse without it. Halloween sounds probable so I will see how he copes. I will probably try some different things next year so all surgestions welcome.
