thoses with TB or wimps out 24/7 now..........

One of mine is out (other on box rest) and he's just in a LW sheet (no fill) 24/7. contemplating upping this at night as it's getting a tad chilly overnight. He's fine and not dropping any weight or condition :)

My 2 wimpy TB have their rambo duos (full neck 100 g, but no liner) on overnight, occasionally bring them in if heavy rain. Will have to start bringing them in if field gets muddy.

I think it depends on how wet it is rather then simply cold. A "touch of frost" shouldn't be a problem. Serious cold rain, can be on the more sensitive horses. So long as continuous and good food is going in, and there is shelter, then most horses should be fine at the moment. I live in Cumbria where we tend to have colder and wetter weather than most of the rest of England. In Scotland they will have more of this, especially in the west.
If we rug to soon, then unless yo are intending to work your horse hard and clip, it can be better to let the winter coat grow through to protect your horse. It wont grow if you over-rug too early.
Feel behind the elbow and the ears, that will tell you if the horse is cold.
I rugged up my mare last week when we had some persistent rain in a medium turnout. The Friesian had nothing, neither did any of the others. My mare's rug can come off now - as dry cold without wind is not a problem.

Captain, WB, is out in his very lite weight rug. But if it is coming frost then he'll go into a lite/medium rug. I don't want him deciding it is too cold and removing the gate to bring himself in.

We have good grass and lots of natural shelter - TB is fat and out naked, pony is too. Friends horse that she recently bought is a bit lean so has a lightweight on at night to help him stay warm.

My elderly TB lived out last year along with the fatties. He has his own nighttime paddock which is quite small, and has a stable in it which is left open for him. He has a large feed and ad lib hay in the stable (He has this paddock so he can eat in peace away fromthe greedy fatties.....)

He is in a light weight turnout over night at the moment, and either keeps it on or takes it off during the day, depending on weather. I have a 100g fill full neck turnout that will be next, quite soon judging by night time temps.

My very wimpy TB is out during the day and in at night.

He has a MW turnout on if it's peeing it down, fly rug on if its sunny, nothing on at night.
