Thank you. Yes its a bar sho. Usually and for past 2 years my farrier has made a traditional eggbar shoe. My horse has PSD and the eggbar is supposed to give some more support. This time the eggbar doesnt look so much eggbar like and seems to be a regular shoe with a piece stuck in the gap. I have no idea why the difference but was a bit concerned the support would be different as the eggbar came further back over the bulbs. Maybe I am being too picky I dont know. I have another horse who I have recently taken barefoot and I have him taken care of by a barefoot trimmer now. I am desperate to take this boys shoes off too but waiting to get my other horse on the road to recovery before taking on a second barefoot rehab. Im just worried about rehabbing a PSD horse as there is not so much mention of PSD barefoot rehab.
hopefully cptrayes will see this as she rehabs horses. My horse also had eggbars they helped in the short term but it was like putting a plaster on a broken leg and we had to go back to scratch although my horse didn't have psd.
I have no direct experience of PSD but a friends horse is currently in rehab, the vet wanted shoes on to give support but as cptrayes says how do they support, so the horse is remaining unshod as it seems to be better supported by having the frog in full use rather than raised off the ground, the horse is doing well and is hopefully going to get back to full work soon.
I agree i think the best thing i can do is take him barefoot. Hehas been sound for 2.5 years since neurectomy and does well but i still feel he struggles with some discomfort at times. I want to help him any way i can and i truly believe barefoot is the best esy forward. Its a little daunting tho with no vet or farrier support!
My pony ( don't have him now ) had hind leg psd and was operated on; the shoes came off before op though, he did however have 8 months field rest before bringing back to into work. That was 6 years ago and he's still sound and hacking most days and a bit of jumping, still barefoot too!
