Following on from can any horse go barefoot thread. I was very much in the camp of it would be lovely if my horse could be barefoot but he would never cope because of X..Y..Z. He is now at Rockley and I am totally converted. Even if his ridden career ends soon. I will do everything possible to keep him as nature intended. I do think it's very much a human condition having a closed mind.
I had convinced myself it would never work for us! Why? I don't know. But... all the time I just had this little seed of doubt, if I don't try I will never know. I kept trying to ignore it, of course my vet and farrier knew best! They were the professionals who I trusted with my horse's best interests.
Fast forward to 1st December 2013, the day Pete's shoes came off, the start of his new chapter hopefully the best chapter hoof-wise. Lovely comment by Flynn on the Rockley website he is having his hooferations done! Looking forward to our future together Mr Peterkin!

It took me a looong time to make the decision to stop having mine shod and tbh for months I really considered it to be a stop gap, to give my lame boy's hooves a break, and to give me time to find another farrier! But it soon became clear it was the best thing I could have done. None of mine will ever have shoes on again. My vet and most of my horsey friends think I've joined the knitted slipper brigade though :D

Fingers crossed for your Pete, will follow his progress on the Rockley blog. Had to giggle at the first pic of him though, typical boy!!
